Ran a 5.0 SN95 Cobra!!!!
Ran a 5.0 SN95 Cobra!!!!
I was driving down 436 by the 434 crossover tonight, with "honda power" Jake riding shotgun.
A white 5.0 SN95 Cobra with chrome rims, Blacks plate frame, looked lowered a bit, really mean azz sounding exhaust, turned onto 436 in front of us.
Jake said he thought he knew the kid, so I speed up to see if he was game.
I caught him at the next light but i wasn't sure how it would turn out since I had just filled up the car & both of us weigh a bit over 200 pounds each "thats being nice about it".
The Cobra guy was a skinny white kid & he was solo, his car sounded pretty good.
At the 1st light we caught, I lined up on his left, rolled out on green & punched it, but he didn't bite.
A second later, after I let off, i see him getting on it & closing on my tail fast.
We hit another light, & he jumps over to the open lane on my left.
On green we both wait a sec to see who's gonna hit it first, then we both end up hitting it at the same time.
I Jumped out on him, right off the launch "wide azz vette tires hook better than stockers".
I pulled my rear bumper to his front by the end of 1st, I could hear his car behinde me screaming & chirping through the gears.
In 2nd gear he's still pretty close, but Jake says im slowly pulling away.
I took it some way into 3rd then let off b/c of traffic up the road.
By that time, I had a little over a car on the Cobra.
I get on the brakes & slow with plenty of time & space, but then the Cobra goes flying by, downshifting & losing traction trying to stop!
I Guess LT1's can out brake snakes of that year too!
Anyway that was a damn good run, alot of fun.

I have friends and family in the area where you always race. How about you do central FL a favor and stop screwing around on the streets so we have one less street racer. I don't care how careful you think you are, it's gonna bite you back HARD one day.

I really dont want this to turn into a street racing flame war, im just posting my kill.
"SFB767" i respect your POV, I agree we should to take it to the track as much as possbile.
But Im not a big time street racer, I might post a kill ive had here every once & a great while, but thats counts for a only a small fraction of the time im behide the wheel of my car.
All of the other hundred's of hours Im driving around like any other normal American.
Hell, during normal driving i drive better than 90% of the tools on the road in this state.
It's been years since ive had a ticket, ive never gotten one in either of my F-bodys to boot.
The last 2 car wrecks Ive been in were caused by other drivers, one runing a light, crashing into my Montes QP & another rear ending my old Maxima at a stop sign!
Trust me when I say I could prolly race something everyday of the week.
I choose not to though, im not a nut job ricer like that, so give me some credit.
I only play around when all the factors are kosher & even though thats doesn't mean I will, the older I get the less & less I do this.
When I played with the Cobra, it was late, there were no cars around, we messed around on a 3 lane road, where there was no danger of another car pulling out in front of us, i didn't take it to any insane crazy speed's & only ran no more than a 1/8th mile.
When I saw there were cars wayyyyyy wayyy up ahead, the 1st thing i did was let off & slow down, so i would not get anywhere near those cars.
Im not sticking up for street racing, just telling you what went down that night, with me.
But really this is not something that only deals with me, just look around you.
Every performance car web board has a kill's section, & thats not 1/4 track kill's either, all the main stream car mags talk about cars & what one will take out another at the stop light gran prix.
It's been part of the automotive culture for years, my granfather told me about who he used to race his Packard against Caddys & such before world war 2, then there was the rodders of the 50's, muscle cars of the 60's-70's so & so on.
It's been going on for generation's & hasn't had a huge impact on the General public, till as of late with the import boom & movies.
The bigger problem is drinking & driving, but uncle sam blows up the street racing issue b/c it's easy for them to tackle & it makes them look good in the public eye vs drinking & driving, wich they cant begin to control.
The Goverment also enjoys the tax money off the sale of alcohol.
People that die in street racing crashes are only a split fraction of the millions that die to the hands of drunk drivers every year.
I work in a night club, it's just silly, we have to shut down at 2:45 am, b/c there might be a chance "according the the all wise state" that if people stay later, their gonna start eating club drugs like pac man, so the big gov is just trying to keep us safe!
But here's the **** so don't see, we stop serving at 2am & rahter than being open a few more hours to let some of the people sober up, the cops come & we have to rush them all out onto the open roads 45 min later, SMART!
That happens at all the bars & clubs in the city.
Or how about the thousands people who sit at, shi##y Orlando Magic games, getting tanked of beer for a few hours, then hit the streets!
Now thats something to really worry about, not me.

Please excuse my above rant.
The Cobra I ran seemed pretty quick, im sure he had more than exhaust.
Ive run a few pre 99 4.6 SN95 GT's & put a good hurting on them.
Ive also run across a few 99 newer GT's, I had a neck & neck race with a light bolt on 5spd coupe, beat a vert & 2 auto coupe's, lost to a heavy bolt on 5spd coupe at the track.
I got a hell of a jump on him at the tree, then he ran me down & beat me, by a little less than a car at the end of the 1/4.

I've owned both a 94 cobra and now own a 94 z28 and with the stock 3.08 gears and stock exhaust on the cobra's they are dogs, gears help a lot on the cobra's. Although the brakes on the cobra blow away the brakes on the Z28 they are ~13inch PBR brakes.
My car has 3.23 gears, im also runing 97 C5 rims 17's front 18's out back.
I dont know if the larger contact patch helps my car stop slightly better than stock size wheeels & tires.
I had no drama slowing, while the Cobra was downshifting "for whatever reason" & losing traction??
