Raced a Quick Hatch Tonight

It's my friends hatch and he's had it for a while but he hasen't been able to drive it since he lost his license a while back. He finally got it back though. It's got a B18 with lsvtech and all that other cool honda stuff. He dynoed 202 FWHP. My friend with a 01 Trans am was there also (Auto -Stock) And I'd beat him up to 80-90 before and that's before I got headers. So I figured i'd have him race the hatch first since I know the LS1 has better top end. They go from a roll around 40 and take off and they are dead even forever. I'm not sure what speed they hit but the trans am finally started pulling away. They raced a few more times with the same results. I decided i'd try my luck since i've hung with the ls1 before. We get three wide and go from about a 20-30 roll well I do the three honk's and we take off and almost immediatly the trans and hatch started pulling me and they put about two car's on me and held. I hit about 110 and was still about 2 car's behind but they weren't pulling and I wasen't gaining and they shut down. I thought for sure I'd hang since i'd beaten the ls1 until higher speeds without my headers Now I've got to figure out what's wrong with my car. I know I have a exhaust leak but maybe I have a small header leak also.

Either somthen is really messed up in your car or your friend has got himself a little more than just a b18 in his car and just not tellen you.

Re: Raced a Quick Hatch Tonight

All i know is it's a B18 with Lsvtech and it's built has diffrent cam's etc in it. And it put down 202 at the wheels. I think it's just the weight of the car that allows it to beat me and hang with my buddy's trans am. And my friend has no reason to lie. He used to have a Mustang Gt but got his license taking away so his parents told him he had to get a 4 banger and he ended up with this which would smack his Gt silly.
I think something is wrong with my car since before I even got headers I would actaully beat that trans am up to 80-90 and he would fly by me. But now tonight he just left me right away.

202whp in a hatch should be 12's on Dr's and low 13's on street tires, So even if you kept up by two cars you car is pretty fast. Ls/vtec's are pretty quick all motor but tell you friend to boost it.

Ya, tell your friend to start making power/speed the cheap and easy way so he doens't even have to put any thought into it

But waht the hell is "ls/vtec"?

Re: Raced a Quick Hatch Tonight

maybe since your headers your getting some knock and its pulling timing? Just a thought because I have 4 degrees of false knock which might be due to my passenger side header hitting just a bit. Good luck.

Re: Raced a Quick Hatch Tonight

LS/VTEC is a combination motor

it has the block of an acura integra LS, which is suppoisively strong and pretty torquey, and it has the heads of a VTEC motor like a B16 or B18.

its called a "frankenstein" motor because its two motors into one which is supposed to make alot of horsepower.

sorry i used to own a honda....

Re: Raced a Quick Hatch Tonight

Well i've got good news, My friend (one who beat me before) and another hatch headed out to race. I decided to follow so I was right behind them. They did three honks and went from a 50 roll. I decided to punch it and to my suprise I was right on my friends hatch's a$$. So i had to switch over two lanes and I started pulling them pretty bad and by the time I shut down my friend in my car said I had about 5-6 car lengths on my buddy's hatch and the other hatch was even farther back. My friend pulls up next to me again and the passenger was like wtf? So we decided to go again. I drop second do three honks and we take off and I immediatly start pulling a little. I shut off again and had similar results to the first race. We decided to go again this time we went from a little bit of a lower speed I did three honks and he got the jump (I think it's because my rpm's were only around 2500-3000 maybe I should have dropped first) and I was right on his bumper and I think I was eventually going to pass him but I slowed down. I fixed my exhaust leak and also I found like 2-3 spark plug boots not clicked all the down so maybe that's what made the diffrence.
