Raced a Lightning

Well I got to race a Lightning tonight. I'm not sure what year it was but he did say it had a 6 pound pully and a predator chip.
My mods are in my sig, still have no tune for the cam.

First run was from a 25, he started pulling and put about 2-3 cars on me till about 90 and we let off.

Second run was from a 30-35 and it was about the same result as the first but i was a little closer.

Third run was from a 45, after the 3 honks he pulled about a car and around 100 i started pulling back and my friend who was in the car said i passed him at about 110-120.

Is this where i should be with a lightning that had a pully and predator chip?

Re: Raced a Lightning

Do you still have the stock LT1 heads and intake? Still an LT1 other than the cam?

For a car without a tune that's pretty good. Sounds like a dyno tune would put you ahead.

Correct all i have is the Lt4 hotcam, no ported heads or diffrent intake. I dont even have a tune or 1.6 roller rockers.

I would guess that the Lightning is a low 13 second one.

Your lucky you did not race him from a dead stop.

I ran up on one at a redlight the other night on the way to work. Light turned green and we both eased out-I kept her in the sweet spot just in case he went for it-but he didn't.

DAMMIT!

What year was it? They upped the power in 2001, but I raced my cousin's 2000 Lightning that has a lower pulley, chip, and CAI. Here is a video I made of us racing. All in all, for my mods, we were dead even. At the track I was in the 8.80s, but he cracked an 8.74 on one run after letting it sit for a while with an ice bag on his blower, but typically he was in the 8.80s as well.

I raced a Lightning once. It had a *** load of mods... Built 5.4, 17psi of boost, carbon hood and tail gate, 4.10:1 rear gear. I can proudly say I beat him from 0-100 by 1.5 cars and after that I was gone! Gotta love aero dynamics.

Don't they come stock around 8psi or so?? And whomever said something to the effect of "I bet you're glad you didnt race him from a stop" is an idiot. You think a supercharged truck with that much power can get any traction? Give me a break...

Actually, those trucks have awesome traction. The first thing I raced after I put my new cam in was an 01 Lightning.
off the line he put a few cars between us, caught him by 70 and had a car or two on him by 100.
We talked afterwards and he seemed very surprized I put him back so quick. He knew I wasn't stock and said most F-Body's fall and stay back untill they get over 100.

On stock tires my Lightning has hit a best 60' of 1.86 and typically is in the low 1.9's.

But heh, what do I know?

You've got to be kidding right? CantonRacer has an L - you do realize that right? Not very bright - must never have seen a fast Lightning before. Allow me to dig out some videos of me racing CantonRacer - I had drag radials, cam, bolt ons running low 13's at the time versus his low 13/high 12 (at the time) Lightning rolling on STOCK F1's.

You have completely dug your credibility into a deep hole.

And, by looking at your mods - he would put a football field on you from a dig. Just in case you were wondering how you would fare.

Re: Raced a Lightning

I saw a few Lightning's at the track last week. Most of them were going low 13's to high 12's at 104-107 with basic bolt ons. One guy I talked to had a '02-'03 that he had fabbed a single T-70 kit for it. he ran a regular F-150 intake and air to air intercooler. He went 12.0 @ 116. He said his best was 11.7 @ 117 . Stock motor.... 12psi
