Race with 2005 Lancer Evolution
Re: Race with 2005 Lancer Evolution
My actual best 1/4 mile time to date is 13.3 at about 107mph. that is bc I couldnt get traction at the track I was at. Now assuming I was actually able to pull a little bit better 60ft on the street which I am sure I did bc I didnt spin as much as at this track. I would put myself at around 13.1 on these runs. Now from what I have heard these cars can run 13.2's stock. I would say its a fair guess to beleive these AWD cars can do just as well on the street as they can at the track bc there is still hardly any wheel spin. If I ran 13.1 on the street to his 13.2-13.3 then I should have beat him by about 1-2 car lengths which I would have had he not jumped on the first run and not missed 3rd gear as I was passing him on the 2nd run. Dustin, as far as my next mod goes. Here in Kokomo i hang around with a bunch of older more experienced guys who also drive LT1's. We have an extra set of heads that one guy is working on making a jig for so he can set these heads up to be ported. We are going to port those extra heads and then spilt the cost to get them bench flowed, if they turn out well they will be going on my car. I am also thinking about going with a GM 847 this winter. I will let u guys know how it turns out. peace, Dustin.
Re: Race with 2005 Lancer Evolution
I am going to wait till after I find out what the heads are going to flow. Then I will decide what cam to go with. Thanks for the recommendation tho. I will keep it in mind. One of the main reasons I wanted to go with an off the shelf cam was for tuning accuracy. But i figure I will eventually get a dyno tune so it might not matter as much as I think. I am also going to upgrade my stall. Right now I am just running a cheap rebuilt stocker that I got off ebay for $150 so yes it sucks. If I had the money I may have bought the stall u had up for sale. I think I might go with something in the 3400-3600 RPM stall range. I will be sure to keep u guys updated on whatever I decide, money is a huge factor for me right now at ths point in time bc I am only 19 and I am about to start college 2nd semester. So whatever I do decide will be unexpected for me too. Peace, Dustin.

I know how the money thing works. I am also in school and its rough trying to keep up with mods. Get those heads flowed first. Then figure out what cam you getting from Bret. He truely is a camshaft master. Then talk to Edge Converters, which in my opinion is one of the best converters you can buy. They will make you a converter for your setup. It will be completely tailored to your setup. Many guys have been switching from Vigilantes to these converters. Very good in my opinion. Talk to Andre at Edge. Good luck man.

I dunno, but it sure as hell put a smile on my face when I beat my friends 04 evo being that my car is almost 13 years old, uses pushrods, practically no technology aside from fuel injection and was purchased for 6 grand and it still managed to beat a brand new $30,000 evo by a lot.
Re: Race with 2005 Lancer Evolution
Dustin, I have heard of the Edge converter and I know they are good converters. Have u ever heard of Fuddle Racing Converters?? They are pretty popular with the LS1 guys, I know a buddy here in my town that has one and he loves it. They also custom make converters to your exact specs. The only differance is they are only $400 and they come with anti-ballon plates. Sometimes they even run 10% off specials, so i dont know how I could beat a custom converter with anti-ballon plates for a possible $360. Go to there website and u can read up on them. I beleive it is fuddleracingconverters.com. When it comes time to buy one I will do more research and find out exactly what I want to do. Peace, Dustin.
Re: Race with 2005 Lancer Evolution
Cool, never heard of them. The reason I speak of Edge is its what Dana at Pro Built Automatics uses in alot of his tranny's. I asked him what the best buy other than $700 Vig and he said Edge is right up there with Vig. For $500. They have anti-ballon and about 10 other things Andre told me, which I know nothing about. Talk to either one, they took as much time as I needed and told me everything about what I asked.
How do you like your Hotcam? I am wanting a cam pretty bad and I already have LT4 springs and rockers and stuff. I want to do a custom cam, but knowing I can throw a Hotcam in without changing anything else for about $190 is tempting. Do you ever wish you went with something different or bigger?

Re: Race with 2005 Lancer Evolution
I did the hotcam bc at the time it was really the only thing I could afford. I got a VERY good deal on the cam. The guy had this cam custom ground to Hotcam specs but wanted a lopier idle so had it cut on a 110LSA. I got it in a trade for a few small things and about $35 so I didnt have to spend much. I got my 1.6 RR's brand new for $100 and got the springs for $35. So I have less then $200 in the whole cam and valve train set-up. I had a cc305 before this Hotcam but had to sell it for financial reasons. I am happy with it for now tho. I got the 8.28 1/8 mile that is in my sig with this hotcam and no tune. But that was dead hooking with great track prep and needless to say I havent been able to do that when I've made my 1/4 mile runs. If u already have the supporting valve train then I say go for it bud. Peace, Dustin.
Re: Race with 2005 Lancer Evolution
sounds like you had a good race... as for the folks that think that evo owners are all in the 20 something range, think again... most of the guys who buy and mod them are my age, 30 somethings who are dsm guys who don't want to deal with a 10 or 15 year old car to mod... it is after all a 30k-ish car new...
