Please... 10 seconds of silence.

Carlsbad Raceway is no more. Killed by housing and commercial (strip mall) development after 40+ years in operation. San Diego County has a safe racing (i.e., stop street racing) policy, yet another 1/4 mile strip gets shut down. Let's bow our heads.... thank you.

That sucks... My friend, and mechanic who is 47 years old ran his fastest time ever at that track... 9.01 @ 140+ in a '68 Z28, I think he ran it that time in the early 80's. It had a built 302 in it. He will be sad to hear about this...

Enghishtown??? I can halfway understand Carlsbad... definately a smalltime track, but Englishtown is one of the truly historic tracks in the nation.

Any place with 40+ years of racing should be allowed to continue operation. Odds are it has been there a lot longer than the surrounding developments that now find it a nuisance.

Anyone know if the local police/govrnment ever try to save these drag strips? or do they make more money ticketing street racers? just a thought

Re: Please... 10 seconds of silence.

Back in the day, I ran my quickest bolt-ons only pass there, and at the time in so-cal, there really wasn't all that many quick bolt-on fbodies for the most part.

That track was cool, and it was a fun drive up from San Diego.

I also remember racing late night up and down the outer road from MCAS Miramar, and of course the sooper-cheezy 1/8 mile street drags held behind Qualcomm Stadium. They really need an up and running strip in So-Cal. That really bites man.
