Re: New wrx sti

yes, for the most part STI's run the times you said..............but, if you go back to what i said earlier you will see that i said.........STI's with a GOOD DRIVER can (are CAPABLE) of running a 12.8.

now i live at sea level, dont know about you, but there are cars running those times around here BONE STOCK.

so now give the different conditions of track, elevation, temp and what not it is possible.

Re: New wrx sti

now, with an AWD car you have to get the launch right or you're ****ed.

it can be done, but i will guess that over 80% of the people with STI's cannot launch them to their full potential

Re: New wrx sti

Last week a guy I work with told me that some 16yo kid in town that currently has a "done up" civic is getting a new STI (daddy buying it for him). The kid I work with wants me to race him. I told him I'd race him from a roll which would negate the awd advantage and because they only have the power to trap around 100mph or so I dont feel I will have any problems with my bolt on LS1 walking it.I'll let you guys know if we ever meet up.I never seem to though. You see most people around here will rev at you when you pass in oppisite directions or ride you a** in heavy traffic were you cant get on it. But whenever I'm behind them in no traffic they dont do anything or if they're behind me in light traffic they stay way back

Re: New wrx sti

As said off the line you are toast if the guy knows how to launch. You can get two step launch things too to make turbo cars even more wicked off the line and combine that with awd and you have serious 60ft domination over any street car not runniing drag tires like nittos. And even then doubt many f bodies can do like 1.7 60ft on nittos.

I thought the wrx could be made faster with stock turbo but maybe not not as familiar with wrx as talons. Talons reach limites of around 350 or so engine hp and then you simply bolt on bigger turbo to get way more power and ditto for the wrx but of course when you bolt on bigger turbos you need support stuff too, bigger injectors, fuel pumps, intercoolers, tuning etc.

I think the subarus are neat but they need to make some two door stis whats with the stupid 4 door configuration in a supposed sports car. My talons are ten times better looking than any subaru. But the old 2 door imprezzas looked not bad. They have enough 4 doors and wagons in their line up make a few two doors now.
But a wrx or any awd subaru makes a sweet second all year round car they are big fun. One thing I have seen though from buddies subarus is they don't seem very easy to work on engine wise at all. My talons are easier than lt1 or ls1 in many areas..spark plug access, plug wire change, cam change, turbo swap etc.

i wasnt too impressed with the sti. i ran one that was reflashed and it run a 12.8 according to the driver. maybe he was a bad driver, but couldnt be any worse than i. i am a horrible driver with the new setup. dont get me wrong, i think they are nice cars overall with plenty of potential, but just not for me. i think they are a little too hyped up. not trying to start anything, just my 2 cents.

Re: New wrx sti

Not all Subaru's are boxy and boring. My 05 Legacy GT has a heck of a nice interior, 4 dr, turbo, AWD, bigger motor than a WRX, and is just as mod friendly. Coming from a 400= hp camaro Z, I was pleasantly surorised by the quickness of this car. No, it is not nearly as fast as the Z but would give a stock or mildly modded LT1 a run.

One thing I don't get though is why everyone runs from a roll. It takes a n inherent advantage away from the cars ability. Thta would be similar to an AWD car saying that I'm not going to run you above 80mph because your heads flow way to much for me to keep up. Now, I know that in the times where it is just a hwy run, you're not going to stop in the middle of the hwy but, for tje runs where you set it up to meet somewhere, etc. why not? Just a thought,

Kyle

You ran an STi (assumedly stock but doesn't really matter) with a heads/cam LS1 -- you're supposed to walk all over it! That reflash might give the STi ~ 105 traps but I'd hope yours are in the 115-120 area so it isn't even close. He's gonna need a good bit of work to catch up with you at this point.

Re: New wrx sti

I was wondering. What do the majority of STI's run in stock trim?

No, they are not pushing 300-320 whp stock...maybe at the flywheel but not at the wheels

Re: New wrx sti

First, an LT1 car with the same mods as Ultra, would still catch up to it just as he did and that STi could have been modded as **** for all yall know. Also, STis are lighter and smaller, have AWD, and come with Brembos stock, but also cost over 28-33K. An SS by contrast is a huge car for a sports car, and for 25K you can put 3k of suspension, brakes and power mods and smoke the **** out of a WRX and do it in a car thats going to be more livable to drive day in and day out.

Re: New wrx sti

How does a RWD solid axle coupe with 4.5" inches of ground clearance stock, huge overhangs, and suspension mods that's stiffer than stock be more livable to drive day in and day out than an AWD sedan with 5.7" of ground clearance?
