My 96 Z vs. Shelby GT

Well I have wanted to race a newer mustang GT and Sunday night I got my chance. Only bad thing is it was a 08 Ltd Ed. Barrett Jackson Shelby GT coupe.

On Sun. nights everybody gets together to show off their cars and hang out. I hang out with a group of guys with cars ranging from my Z, a LS1 SS, a 5.7 GTO, 02 Z06, 04 Keene Bell Cobra, 99 TA, and the Shelby GT. It was pretty slow Sun so the GT asked if I wanted to run. I didn't care so I said yes.

We all took off to a secluded stretch of road and lined em up. A friend of ours flagged us. When the arms dropped we go. We both get a good launch. He spins a little more than I do so I get the jump. I have him by a door through 1st and part of 2nd. By the time I hit the top of 2nd he is pulling even. When I hit 3rd he starts pulling on me. We shut the race down at about 110 and he had 2-2 1/2 cars on me.

So I lost my first race against a new GT. I am not to down about it though. After the race we get to talking and he tells me that he spent 44k for the car. So my 4k LT1 was 40k cheaper and I only lost by a couple cars. So when I get some money together for H/C and LT's I think I will be ok.

Next weekend I will go up against the SS which has the SLP options and see how I do. The SS has already raced the GT and they said he lost by more than I did. I know what the SS is capable of, I am assuming since the owner of the SS is only 17 and has had the car for a couple months that driver ability is playing a huge role.

The SS is a M6, the GT is a M5.

Yeah the specs for the Shelby GT say 319 hp stock. So driver had alot to do with it. The SS has the SLP options, I can't say for sure but hp on that should be 330 or so fwhp??

So did you race a Termi? If that's the case, don't feel bad. Termi's are legit. An '08 Shelby GT would be a more fair fight for an LT1. Sounds like a good time with a bunch of different cars.

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.............whew ,i have to catch my breath.............bwahahahahahahhahahahahahahahah ahahahahahahahahaha.................whew. Ah,the mighty LT1,The Flash drafting behind Superman would be hard-pressed to pass the mighty LT1,such is the greatness of this car!!!
C'mon,you really don't think a Shelby GT matches up to a LT1???/
My car is a fair fight for the LT1,the Shelby GT would have no problem with it.

Funny how a 2008 Ford is having fits trying to beat a 12+ year old LT1 Chevy...

Add a few mods, and Ford will be fighting to keep their heads above water for another 10 years.

Yeah I figure some LT's and I can stay with him. Then A H/C combo and c-ya.

FWIW: When I raced him I didn't realize it but after some research it seems they only made 100 BJ Edition Shelby GT's. I don't know if would be beating the **** out of it on a daily basis.

Youre a fool.. maybe if you actually comprehended what you were reading you would understand. He said a "Shelby GT" not a GT500 you idiot.. which would be something like this http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...t_c/index.html

now read the article and notice this is just a factory stock GT with body and few bolt on modifications and as i stated earlier it has maybe 15 horsepower more than stock so in turn the bwahahahahaha bs goes towards you.. reading goes a long way huh?

While I do spend a lot of time on here defending the 2v its stuff like this that sets me back from bringing people into the light.

Dude, the newer GTs while having more power also have a few hundred more pounds. They are nice cars but still are not going to be a murder on any 2v or lt1. The LS1 doesn't even murder those cars, it does beat them firmly but not by train lengths or other such absurd distances.

Lastly its the street ANYTHING can happen. Hell anything can happen at the track too. I have seen 10 second cars go up in smoke and try to play catch up to a high 12 second car only to lose. It is the beast of human error and inconsistency that makes every race fun because at last we cannot predict the outcome.
