Your comments have been worth reading. It has been light years since my
LT1 was a bolt on car, but like you mentioned... Most of mine stock or close to it were 14.0 second / 9.0-9.20 1/8th mile cars. I have owned 3 of them and all of the LT1s were autos. The first thing any LT1 owner should mod is that Gad aweful torque converter. I remember being dissapointed at the tracks until I put in my 3,200 vig and picked up almost 1/2 a second.
Now mine sits in a garage and awaits track only events (9 second ride)

My Saleen runs mid 10s and is fully equipped so I wont be arguing bolt on vs bolt on or power adder vs power adder, but will tell you that once ANY modding starts....all bets are off for either camp. Just depends on how deep your pockets are and how far you are willing to push the envolope.
Im sure you will agree.

Now back to the mustang vs LT1, in particular the 2v engine. I ran my bone stock 01 GT with 680 miles on the odometer at Darlington dragway in SC back in 2003 and people were dumbfounded that a stock 2v was turning 13.80s on every run. 1/8th mile on the slip was 8.90-8.98 respectively. Trap was dead on 100 mph. Conditions were perfect and I was cutting 1.90 short times on the factory tires.
As you know, it depends greatly on driver, weather, track conditions etc...
There are so many variables its not even funny.
Thats why on a given day you may see an 02 ram air LS1 running 13.90 at the strip. Or an new Cobra Shelby running mid 13s.
The track is such a humbling trip that it will just make you realize how slow you really are. Thats my experience anyhow.

I love threads like this that we can all discuss our views and I dont mind some jabbing and heated debate, but I appreciate all of you keeping this thread civil.

Later.
"Hey, Mikie... HE LIKED IT!" LOL.. Thanks man... I enjoyed writin' it...

Yeah, you're so right... the Clock-laser is a cold blooded wench... and the stage can be very cruel task master... taking perfectly good runs and slippin 3/10s in because ya broke loose and just couldn't force your foot off the hammer, stacking faith on top of hope just KNOWIN' she's gonna grab...

All one needs to learn that is to make enough passes... and it'll come to ya.

So yeah... the Driver mod is critical...

But with all of that love, passed along; let me say that the Mustangs at our track come in two flavors... and where I'm at right now, with my current set up, is that I'm either killing them or getting killed. That 'stang I wrote about above is the closest thing to a competitive Mustang that I've seen out there since the rebuild. They're either suckin... meaning N/A and I'm CRUSHIn' em... or they're blowin' meaning FASTER than me; and usually by no small margin. Running high 11s or better... There are several Mustangs running HUGE blowers, street legal and cars that are driven to and from the track, that are running low 6s... CRAZY FAST!! And I don't give a damn what anyone says... if you're laying down 6s you're haulin some serious @$$...

Now let me also note, that I'm runnin mid - low 12s and needin' more... which is A- Normal and B- because the field that I used to run against is NOT keeping up. I'm in a spot now where there's no one at the track to really run against. I'm faster than the herd by 1/2 a second or better and I'm slower than the fast car by roughly the same margin. So the herd won't even stage up on me.. unless we get a new guy with a '12 second car'... meaning he's been tearin' up the street for a bit and just KNOWS he's runnin' 12s... and is about to find out he's a 14... (Sound familiar?) >>> BEEN THERE! HATED IT<<<<

A quick story from a few weeks back...

There's a Chrysler 300 running mid - high 7s and a late model Vette runnin' about the same... Clearly the Chryslers inducin'... but with what is anyone's guess... and the Vette's a Z06... so, well... it's a Z06 Vette.

So they make several separate passes and at some point the announcer calls for a grudge match between these two cars; which they mutally agree to do and the 300 actually rolls the Vette by .030... and they make a HUGE deal of these two guys... I mean obnoxious... just on and on about what a couple of speedsters these two guys are and so on...

Anywho, a half hour after all this hoopla... I am hotlappin' a couple of passes and I pull back into the lanes and there she is... The Vette... I'm like 'COOL! Maybe I'll get some 'kudos' for runnin' this guy...'

So we stage up and the announcer says... "Oh it looks like OConner is going down this time folks... he's staged up on the wrong Vette...' and he just goes on and on about how I'm about to get my @$$ handed to me by this Vette... (which wasn't exactly a newsflash... but DAYUM! Where's the LOVE? I'm there every Firday night almost and for some reason the crowd has learned to HATE my car...)

So anyway, I hear this and I'm like 'screw that...'

I'd watched this guy make a couple of passes and I knew he was a late starter... he wouldn't even begin his launch until the green was lit, putting his R/T at close to a second...

So if I was gonna make anything on this dude, it had to be in the first foot...

So I stage up as shallow as possible to get the laser to trip and when that third yellow flickered I AM GONE!... and the Vette faded out of my right periphial and I didn't see him again until I made the turn.

Now that car is 3/10s of a second faster than me in the 1/8th... and I took him down with the whole damn world watchin' and that is because of two reason's...

First the good Lord drives a Z28... I am SURE of it... and 3/8ths will not buy a win back from a late start... (Learned that the hard way... just like our Vette Driver learned it.)

Now out of fairness... I should point out that I staged up on dude last week and he walked me after he recovered from a much better start than the one above, where he had more than enough to buy that run back with some change comin...

So you bet man... anything can happen and it usually does.

Nice runs, sounds like you had fun and in the end that's what it's about.
