modded s2k

well my friend wanted to run his car a few times. so we we went at it. he has a 2000 s2000 with 477 gears, intake, some lightweight exhaust that took off like 60 lbs. and a V tech controller. Its fast.

1st race. 40 role i drive a 05 A4. he gets at it on the 2nd honk "****er" and i have to play catch up but i dont get next to him untill around 110!! then we shut it down. my car dosent do to good from 40 though. but awsomely fast for a s2000.

2nd race. 60-120 put about 5 cars on him. this time we both leave at the same time. still a better fight then the mustang GT's i have been racing.

3rd race. 5mph- 80. put about 3 cars. great fight IMO.

All in all this s2000 is no joke. for a 2.0l to hang with a 6.0 i give it heavy props. all great races.
i drive a stock 05 a4.

I doubt the intake and exhaust really made more than 10 usable hp for him - it's the gears that took it from a torqueless wonder to real usable speed. They trap around 100 mph stock so once it's rolling it does pretty well.

They're too peaky for my tastes. One magazine said that if you didn't launch at like 5k rpm it took it over 8 seconds to hit 60. Talk about all-or-nothing!

Im with John on this. That engine really does remind me of a rubber band operation. You have to really wind it tight to get the "usable" hp out of it.
I dont like feeling like Im breaking the damn thing to go fast.

Yea the s2000's arent much to worry about at all...I pounded a few in my lightly modded LT1 years ago. If anything it was definately the gears keeping him around.

But don't forget about the almighty power-to-weight ratio . S2000's are very light cars. GTO? Not so much!

S2000's redline at 9000.

The stock gears are 4.11:1. 4.77 is 18% higher, so that's like a Camaro with 3.42s upgrading to 4.11s. It's a lot of gear, but it's manageable on a street car.
