2003 Mach 1 vs 2002 SS

hello guys. my friend on his 2002 SS wants to race me. the only mod he has is a magnaflow muffler. it's the 6 speed one. i'm driving a V6 camaro with all the mods you can see in my sig.

i know i don't stand a chance against the latest SS so anyways i bought a 2003 Mustang Mach1 2 weeks ago. (i know you would say i joined the dark side ) and i was wonder how good/bad i would do against him. i've never drove a Camaro V8 before, i know they're ultra fast.

i almost got a 2002 ss the day i bought the mach, but it was an automatic, and i did want to drive a stick shift. you would ask why i'm posting here since this is a camaro website, well just because of the fact that i'm still driving at least the body of a camaro
i'm not afraid to hear that ss is a 5.7 and my mach is 4.6
i just want to know what would i expect from an ss. would he kill me so bad, or would i be able to keep up with him???

i have the 5 speed one, with 3.55 gears. i know he is not that good with the shifter yet

hehe man, u sound kinda like a noob... anyways, the new mach 1 would give him a sweat and with good driving who knows.. they got 305 hp and is lighter than a SS. If bout your v6 camaro, well race both of them against him.. what u got to lose?? good luck!

It will be a heads up drivers race between the two, who ever doesn't screw up more will win.

THe SS does have an advantage, but it doesn't mean that he can't lose. A 2002 SS with a Cat-back is probably a mid 13 second car. You are a high 13 second car, so it's still a drivers race. The longer the race, the worse it gets for you though. The top end on the SS will be tough to beat.

It should be very close. Both cars are capable of running low 13s stock (with good driving). If I had to, I'd give a very slight edge to the SS but since you said that he's not a very good driver...it's tough to say that he should win. If you can "out-drive" him, then you've got a really good chance to beat him. However, I dunno how many miles you have on your car right now (I'm assuming that you bought it new). If it's only 1k or so (or less) then the motor still isn't broken-in yet and that's not going to help you.

Should be a good race (at least a close race) so good luck

Another vote for a close race with a slight but increasing edge to the SS as speeds increase (aerodynamics/more overall power).
But then again you said he blows at driving, so you just never know...

I am pretty sure that with a good driver they are mid/low 13 second capable cars stock (Mach 1's)

1300 miles and counting

1300 miles but i've already stomped on her , my friend on the ss is on canada for vacations, but he's coming in 2 weeks.

i'm most than ready for him, i've been practicing my launches a lot. this car would left black marks on the tarmac when launched at 2700 rpm. i would need to get some nittos, but that would be for feb/mar next year . So I went down a little, 2200 rpm and seems to be fine. Just a little chirp from the tires. Also been shifting at 6200 rpm. I’ve tried at 6400, 6500 and 6600 but after 6600 you can hear it begging for the next gear . I did a pass at 100 mph in third gear. This thing is amazing.

later

it all depends on the car also, some cars from the factory are freaks. i saw a stock 6-speed ls1 (z28) with 2:73 gears run a 13.2 in 1/4.....sometimes you just get lucky........

Sorry try again. 6-speed LS1s only come with 3.42 rear gears.
