Lt1 Vs GT

Well tonight me and a bunch of other people headed out to this abandoned road. My friend has a mustang gt and we been wanting to run them. I've only had my car for about a month and it's my first stick and this was my first race from a dead stop. Well the first race he took me off the line by second i had a little bit on but i went to go into third and missed it this messed me up he passed and i just let off. Second race everyone decided to place bets. Well pretty much everyone went with the gt. I was kind of laughing cause i knew i could take him. Atleast a few kids put some money on me. Anyways second race i took off and it felt like my car was bogging almost like i took off in third but i didnt. I think i let out the clutch too slow maybe?. But same thing by second i was passing him and by third i had like a car on him. So i still didnt do as well as i wanted. Anyone have any tips. I have Lt1 M6, i think the starts are really hurting me. I try to take it easy on my but i'm wondering what rpm's i should take it to for the launch and if i should dump the clutch or just let out easily. I think i should be able to take him by more than one car length.I also have traction control on my car, should i leave this on or off while racing?Funny thing is there was a 3000 gt there and all it had was stage 3 clutch and it beat the Gt. So i knw im defintly doing something wrong.

Any tips appreciated.

Re: Lt1 Vs GT

first i would like to say good kill. second, what year gt did u run? anyway, im not the best launcher by far but I know a few things. Traction control should be off when you run, dumping the clutch is a tricky thing because u'll either get it right or wrong in my belief. Your gonna want a little bit of wheelspin to get ya going but not so much your standing still watching the other guy take off. I pretty much slip the clutch hard off the line so i can control the wheelspin.....is it the best way?....prob not since it surely punishes my clutch. Its get me off the line enough to not have a horrible start and it works really well sometimes for me atleast.

as for u letting the clutch out too slow....if you got a stock clutch and were slipping it really hard it might have heated it up badly causing it to slip which would give u ur "not as strong take-off". I think slippin the clutch a little bit is the way to go for your car and rpm wise I would say around 1700 then mash the gas but I'm sure there are many others who could chime in and give you advice. good luck

You should be able to beat his car as you are now. Those model GT's are not fast at all! You should be able to run with a 2000+ GT also if you get the driving down. You could easily do it from a roll as long as you dont keep missing gears!

Ya i think it's my starts really killing me. I'll get better at those and after a little bit more time i'll be better with the stick. We did go from a roll earlier this week and i pretty much smoked him. He's cool though he was just laughing at how bad i beat him.

You should have parked your car and sprinted against the 97 GT, might have been a little close...FYI 96-98 GTs were slow fom the factory(he'll need ALOT of work to even near hang w/ you now let alone after you finish your mods), and I really dont think the newer ones are that much better but thats just my opinion...none the less, good kill

Re: Lt1 Vs GT

The best way to get your launch down is to keep trying. You'll know when you get it right, it seems like you can feel when you're getting just the right amount of clutch and gas. And if you keep missing third, try taking it just a little bit slower and you should get it right. My first few times all I ever did was miss 3rd, luckily I only looked stupid in front of my passengers, as I was only out enjoying myself. And you should be able to make that GT look stupid, they're just a tad faster than a M5 3.8 from a roll.

Ummm... seriously if he was stock his Mustang should have 215 HP.
You need to get a tune up, or learn how to drive that thing.
Not trying to be mean, but he is spotting you 60 HP.
It should have gotten real ugly real fast if you knew how to drive.

NOT TRYING TO **** THE MUSTANG CROWD OFF...
I can tell you I have respect for all cars, but this should not have been close.
