LT1 TA vs. Stage 1 SRT-4
Re: LT1 TA vs. Stage 1 SRT-4
I have been watching these Neons for the last year or so and in person the only thing I have seen fail is the motor mounts. They are very fast for what they are and reliable even when the wick is turned up a good notch. I think for the money they are an outstanding buy.

Big Red Jim....that car you are talking about with stock turbo is spraying he estimated a 120 shot and if its nx they are rated at rwhp on the jets so would be equivalent of a 150 shot engine rating basically.
So I can believe a stock turbo could put out 300whp or so pushed to the max on boost and not sure how long the stock turbo would continue to run that as bet that would take over 20psi. From what I hear much past 19 is not so good for the stock turbos.
So I think you should read and do a bit more research yourself. I am sure my 96 puts down around 400rwhp with minor mods and 125 or 150 shot also.
I am not putting down the srt 4 I like them. I wish they were offered two door and awd and might even have picked one up. But they make a nice fun daily driver family car. Why dodge quit making them in two door is beyond me and awd is the answer to hook up big turbo power. And I know you can get an srt 4 or honda or dsm or whatever into that 400plus rwhp range on turbos alone but not on not stock factory turbo usually and spray don't count.
The big tip is that post you linked to is in the nitrous forum.
I just saw a nice blue stage 2 srt4 today at car show. Was going to talk to guy a bit and maybe arrange a race with one of my toys or maybe he will take it to local track this year and get to see a good time out of one with a good driver and good tires. I hope it wasn't the same one I saw run last year.
I also raced a turbo civic with nitrous in my barely modded vert and ran a 14.3 at 95 to his 16.5 at 88 or something pathetic. The faster car don't always win. I am not sure what went wrong. Figure he blew the tires off maybe on street rubber and then had to back off. His 60ft was like 2.8 or something.!! I had nitto drags on the 96z.
Is there going to be a 2006 srt 4? I thought they were dropping it although thought it was popular.

There are alot of cars that can be made fast and are repectable. That really has nothing to do with what I am saying. I don't like FWD 4 bangers, never have and never will! They are good for what they were intended, drive from point a to b. My .02 cents, SRT-4 suck and are hilarious.

Besides - I own the car. I have a fairly good idea of what it's capable of.
Re: LT1 TA vs. Stage 1 SRT-4
People who refuse to race from a stop shouldn't be given the time of day. What a cowardly thing to do. That's like one of us asking an AWD for roll races only too, just a stupid thing to do.
Re: LT1 TA vs. Stage 1 SRT-4
Well hate to burst the bubble but when someone says stock turbo they mean basic mods not major shot of spray and not sure if they are forged pistons in that motor but better hope so as don't give them long life with a 120 or more shot on there.
And yes its very relevant if nitrous is involved as its only got that power when the bottle is full not empty.Heck I could likely put a 200shot or more thru my lt1 to get a high dyno number sure as heck wouldnt' run that everyday on an engine with non forged pistons and rods.
I knew there was no way a stock turbo srt 4 would do over 400whp without something like big shot of spray as my 92 needed a big aftermarket and cams and big intercooler and likley intake manifold and bunch of fuel support and tuning to reach 400whp.
I am sure the car will be fast as heck on spray if it can put the power down again never said once that I don't like the srt4 or dodge products ..look at my sig I have two dsms and love them to death ,as much or more than my v8 muscle cars. Turbos rule on any engine just can't beat them. And as I said only wish they would make two door srt 4s and awd optional then might even trade in the 97 talon on one.
You do make a good point, run what your brung and yes it doesn't really matter if you lose to nitrous car its still a loss. I have spray to install on a few of my cars and might get it for my 97 talon also. It works and works well.
Also about the not running awd from a stop and all that well people like to win not lose and everyone knows with half a brain that an awd subaru or talon or whatever will destroy a car badly off the line that isn't running drag tires heck talons have pulled think 1.6 60fts on pure street tires. That jump makes it hard to catch up if power is roughly equal between the two cars.Ditto with fwd against rwd on drag tires.. So racing from a roll just gives some cars a more fair advantage. Buddy with fwd subaru coudn't hook his estimated 300hp in an old subaru xt worth a crap. He lost to all my cars.
But from a roll it was much harder to beat him or couldn't with some of them.
His cams combined with the hit of the turbo just sent his street tires up in smoke and not just off the line.

... because the max is going to be about 340ish + or - with a ported 16g (on 116 oct gas)... and being that the neon is sporting a 16g-ish turbo, well you get the picture of why people might question it... perhaps next time put the naaaaaws @ the beginning of the mods so people can subtract it out for what the turbo is really doing... for a bit of proof of a fairly common moderate/mild workup of a 16g...

Re: LT1 TA vs. Stage 1 SRT-4
Well, to get slightly back on topic(not that I don't LOVE a little flaming) I'll throw in my two cents. My buddy at work has a 2004 SRT-4 with the stage 2 upgrade. He was all ready to race me and hand me my a$$, so after work last week we went out and made three runs. I left the bottle turned OFF, because I wanted it to at least be close. Since I'm a nice guy we started each run around 40 MPH, which happened to be about 3500 RPM for me, which is quite low. I let him take the hit every time and I waited until his turbo spooled before I hit it so I wouldn't have to hear any excuses. I pulled on him EVERY SINGLE TIME.
At the top of second gear we were even(since I gave him a ~1 car jump), and when I threw it in third I started walking away. We got done and he said that he would beat me in a longer race because he gets 2 more pounds of boost in the top three gears.
I told him that I would still beat him, and if there were any question I would crack open the bottle and then we'd see who came out on top.
His car is very impressive for what it is, and I would guess it's trapping ~105 MPH or so, but there's no way in hell a Stage 2, much less a stage 1 is going to pull a Z06 at any speed. I think this week I'll challenge him to a race from a dig and see how many buslengths I can put on him with a little help from the magical purple bottle!

Would over 400 hp. be good on a stage 1 srt-4 lets see. Look at this

Well look there.

Re: LT1 TA vs. Stage 1 SRT-4
orbitalshock2k ~ Why are you so against racing from a roll? In a way, I kind of like it better. It rules out the launch ( And for the most part, driver error ) and its SO much easier on the drivetrain not launching at 3000 RPM's lol ... I would never pass up a race because it was only from a roll. I mean, I pass up races ... Alot ... but thats never going to be a reason for me.

Stage 1 is a stock car, in regards to HP, stage 2 is 300 crank HP with the ability to run on high octane 100+. I followed a stage 2 in my Z06 and if we had the room to be side by side he would've lost the race easily.
