LS1 vs LT1

Hey all,

I'm sure with the title of this thread, your all already putting up your dukes getting ready to brawl, but this won't be your typical LS1 vs LT1 thread.

Anyways, I used to have the 94 A4 Z28 in my sig. Hot Cam, all exhaust, all intake, programming, valvetrain, high stall, race trans, blah blah. The car never quite performed right (you can see the times on my car page). It was always lacking the top end power it should have had.

My buddy has a 95 M6 1LE Z28. 224/230 cam, full exhaust, CAI, programming, some suspension, blah blah. We would race around on the street, I had good torque so I would stay with him a bit, then he'd pull pretty good, plus I had an A4, so i was done from a roll. At the track, he was usually a half second faster then me, but only a few more MPH (I had good 60' foots).

Well, I recently sold my car and bought a 01 M6 WS6. Bone stock except for a short shifter. I was eager to give him a run. We finally got a chance from a 10 mph roll one nite. I was actually slightly pulling, however, i'm new at stick - aka SUCK - especially when I'm racing. I missed 2nd (how the F do u do that?) but i got it back in, caught up the little ground I had lost, and then missed 3rd (GG tard) and gave up at that point.

My biggest dissappoint is that I THINK I would have had him if I could shift worth a damn (he is a pretty good driver too). However, I have been in the car with him when we have smoked even lightly modded LS1s. I raced him in my Dad's 04 A4 vette and we were dead even.

How could I have been able to pull him back in so quickly on a stock LS1? I can't wait to run him now that I have the lid and filter and a little more experience

Re: LS1 vs LT1

Maybe his car is just slow for whatever reason? What kind of times does it pull?

I trapped a best of 112.8 in my stalled automatic with that 224/230 cam.. good luck pulling me in that LS1 back then .. and now? heh...

Must be something wrong with that 95 w/ XE503 cause he should be spanking stock and mild bolt on LS1's. Hell I have just bolt on's and I can beat most stock or mild bolt on LS1's.

Javier knows what I'm talkin' about.

Re: LS1 vs LT1

While I love my LT1 and have "spanked" my share of unsuspecting people including some LS1s...I have to admit, after driving my wife's 2000 SS that we just got, that its damn impressive. Its got an A4, 4.10s, an SLP lid, cold air kit, Hypertech, and a Flowmaster cat back. Power is very linear and smooth and very fast for what it is at full weight, leather, etc...I have always had respect for LS based stuff, now I know why...I feel like I'm cheating on my LT, and I don't care....

I don't get what the big deal is with the lt1 ls1 rival stuff. The ls1 is old news now the ls2 seems like the motor to have.
