I hear ya. Maybe port the stockers while they are off or get some cheap iron heads like World, Vortec, etc. Now is the time to do it if the heads are off anyway.

Ya, I called around and the cheapes I found for porting/polishing was 300$. Now, that in all reality ISN'T BAD, as the stock heads can be made to flow REAL NICELY, but 300 bucks is outta my range right now So stock heads for now, next winter I will tear them off again and have some work done when I get my rearend/tranny redone.

Even at 10 bucks an hour, 4 days of work would equal about 300 bucks. I would work a little extra and do the heads while everything is apart, but that's just me.

Sweet! Hog those things out big time and make some power. Make sure you cam, intake and exhaust it accordingly, though. You will lose low end and may need steeper gears like 3.73s or deeper.

I will loose low-end for sure? But before I bought my intake/exhuast/cam I made sure it is all designed to work together
But he is going to port it, polish it, drill more oil passages (I think..), three-angle valve job, and gasket match it; all for 15-bucks a head
That freaking rox!!!!!!!11

You can easily lose low end when porting heads. Make sure he knows exactly what he is doing and tells you the outcome before he starts working on them. Life is primarily a series of compromises.

That is gay; the whole design behind my 305 is low-end torque

Every motor can be built for low, mid or top end. Just depends what you want. You can have it all with a motor built for top end and steep gearing. Or get a turbo, blower, or nitrous on that motor.

Re: LOL Celica GT vs..

I am building my engine for low-end actually, as I relize it will be far easier to squeeze torque outta the beast than hp..
But if I want the engine to perform better bottom-end, should I not have the heads ported, etc?
But I have been thinking about supercharging sometime down the line (And I do mean DOWN THE LINE, lol)

I would not have the heads ported if you want bottom end. Mods that increase bottom end torque on a Stang are: gears, pulleys, cat back, timing increase, roots blower, nitrous, small turbo, etc. They are probably similar on a 305. I had "bowl work" done on my Ranger heads and that helped bottom end torque. Tell your head porter what you want out of the engine. You can supercharge a stock motor. It would be good to have forged pistons if you plan on supercharging. You will also not put out near as much hp if you have stock heads and a blower vs. ported heads and a blower. But you will have more low end.

Re: LOL Celica GT vs..

Hmm.. so will porting the heads still give me more torque and hp.. or will porting decrease tq and give hp? lol

Porting the heads will give you more torque and hp above about 3500 rpm and less hp and torque below about 3500 rpm. So gears would help as would revving it harder.
