L98 vs SRT-4 (Again)

Today I was running errands and ran across another SRT-4. I was like cool, another SRT-4 thinking they are fast. First off, my car finally stopped the whole bad idol thing....guess it was bad gas after all. So I have full power in my car now. Anyways we drive down the road till we finally hit a traffic light. I pull up beside him and his windws were tinted so dark i could ntoi see inside (I am thinking beyond legal limit). Anyways he gives it a few revs, and I notice that it is not sounding to stock. matter of fact it sounded pretty dang good. Light turns green and we take off, he starts pulling me a little off the line, but the other three I raced did about the same when we first started racing....so no big deal. We are speeding up 20, 30 , 40 so on adn so on, and the son of a gun is pulling me. The faster we go the harder he pulls. We get to around 110 mph and he is easily 4-5 cars in front of me. I was like holy crap that car is not stock. Well as I said my car is runnign tip top so no excuses here. Whoever said all the SRt-4's need is a few mods to be fast.....was right. I never talked to the person so I have no idea what the had, but the turbo was loud and the exhaust was louder than the ones I ran before, so putting 2 n 2 together.....go figure. Anyways it was all in good fun.

If you would ditch that ****ty TPI setup and put on a nice victor JR intake and a nice 650cfm carb you would gain a ton. Ditch the TPI setup it sucks

Keep the car and just drop in a ZZ4 and smoke LS1's.

Or better yet, just keep driving what you own and save your money for a spanking new '09.

Or scrap the TPI AND carb all-together and go with a Holley Stealth Ram and pick up an easy 70+ horses

EDIT: Or just do the mods you have planned

Well shoot, all these engine swaps being suggested... a BBC will fit right in a 3rd gen engine bay. A 500+ cubic inch BBC with a blower or hefty shot of nitrous will make easy work of even the most impressive small blocks... with 10 times better driving manners for any given power level.

Re: L98 vs SRT-4 (Again)

I am going to just stick with the plans I have for now. I can do those mods cheap and do them myself. And once I am done it will work well together....I hope. If that fails then maybe I need to do a LT1 or LS1 swap, but not wanting to do to much, because my son and I are fixing this up together, and in 4 years (when he is 16) I want to start letting him drive it here and htere, but when 18 give it to him. So I do not want it to powerful, just fun power. If you catch my drift

Well if you do all the stuff you have mentioned in your Sig it's going to be a bit more than just "fun fast"

I got your back man! Just about any car out there has the patential to be a beast and those SRT-4's with the right mods are pretty quick. So stick to your plan with the HSR , heads, and cam. Just know that it'll take a little more effort for us 3-Gen guys to catch up with the technology of todays engineering. The car makers of today does all the hard work for you. Look at the LS1 motor. NEXT GENERATION really easy to make power.

Some time you Win, Some time you loose. I guess that's what this forum is all about!

Everyone has an LS based 3rd gen these days. It's getting quite boring

I remember reading an article possibly in GMHTP or possibly Chevy HP, or Super Chevy where they Vortec headed an L98 3rd gen Camaro but don't remember the intake system they used. I keep thinking they used the Holley Stealth Ram but not 100% sure. Don't remember any other drivetrain mod's they did either nor the cam that was used. I do remember they achieved stock LS1 like performance. What fun to lay down a serious whoopin on some diahretic (as in diahrea) mouthed knuclehead spouting off "turd gen" smack with a properly mod'ed 3rd gen L98. I have many fond memories of the 3rd gen's I've owned and even though I've owned an LT1 4th gen for a good long while, the 3rd gen's are still dear to my heart.

^There was an aftermarket cam being used or not? Either way that is pretty damned neat
