L98 T/A Vs SRT4
L98 T/A Vs SRT4
A friend and i went to a car show yesterday in birmingham and on the way home at about 40 MPH a yellow SRT4 pulls up next to us.I tell my buddy not to run it because i have heard how fast they are (or can be).He just got this car a couple of weeks ago and the only visible mod is headers and a CAI.Hes not sure what else is dont to it.The paint is pretty well baked being a florida car and i am sure these guys were thinking what an easy kill.Anyway from a 40 MPH roll he immediately pulls a car on it.As we go faster he pulls about 2 and a half.AT some point they gained about a car but by 135 it was obvious they couldnt catch us.Anyway since i never see thidgen kills (where they win anyway) ithought i would post this.BTW,there were 4 people in the neon.
Re: L98 T/A Vs SRT4
Many strong speed density L98 cars have run low 14's. Dont ask me how but Their used to be a link to a guy who had a 1991 z28 that was red. He ran a 13.9 with it, it had 3 degrees advanced timing and a borla muffler...bone stock it ran 14.1's all day long. He even had the timeslips and pictures posted up on his website, but I can no longer find the site. I used to be a big 3rd gen fan
The pre-1990 cars...are around mid-high 14's.
So If he has headers and a cai...and is running strong. I dont see why you wouldnt pull one if they had 4 people in the car. It would be almost an even race with each having a single driver.

Re: L98 T/A Vs SRT4
There were some pretty quick lightly modded L98's T/A's and Z28's. I don't know much about SRT4's but it sounds like a legit kill so, congrats to your friend.
On a side note: It's not usually a good idea to take anybody on in an automatic L98 or LT1 from a 40 mph roll. Has always been a weak spot. Tell your buddy to start running people from a mph that he has the advantage. In an L98, I'd try to run people anywhere from a 5 to 20 mph roll. L98's have insane bottom end torque

Re: L98 T/A Vs SRT4
Congrats on the kill. Those things are pesky little bastards. Sounds like its a good running L98. When I was pretty much stock in my lt1 with just a CAI and a borla cat-back I got beat by an SRT-4. There really not a problem anymore tho
Re: L98 T/A Vs SRT4
hey guys, thanks for the vote of confidence. I am the friend he was referring too, so I am new to this site now. A few little corrections to the Kill
The srt-4 had three people in the car, we were doing about 30 mph at the start. at around 70-80 mph the srt started to pull up on me, to about my door, that is when my friend said.."see I told you they are tough he is about to blow by you now", so I reached down and turned off my A/C (lol.....didnt think I would need to turn it off) then we pulled back 2-3 car links again, doing around 135-140. It was fun and I had been out of the racing loop for awhile till I got this car a few weeks ago.
About the car: The only things different than stock I see ont he car, are the headers and a sticker on the radiator that says this car came equipped from the GM factory with the SLP package. I emailed SLP last night and asked them if I gave them my VIN could they tell me what exactly is in my car, they said they could, so I sent the VIN.....now waiting for results. All I know is I have had 4 TA's, and this 1991 is fast as heck, and I havent done anything to it yet. Thats why I wanted to know what SLP parts are on it, cause when I do do things to it, I do not want to conflict with the SLP parts on it now. I order my RA-2 working hood this week, then I will get it painted....can't wait. Thanks for the props guys and I will stay active ont hese boards now.

Awesome kill
Those L98's have just as much torque as an LT1 yet weigh a LOT *less*
This post was edited because I wasn't thinking correctly and said that the L98's weigh *more* than the LT1's
