L98>lt1>ls1>4.6 2v>4.6 4v

I just got done studying bone stock manual trans. dynojet graphs for all 6 engines (the L98 was an auto). The L98 is better than the LT1 until 3700 rpm. The LT1 is better than the LS1 until 3700 rpm. The 4.6 2V is better than the Mach 1 and Cobra 4V motors (non-blown) until 4700 rpm. So progress means worse drivablility around town, more shifting, more lugging the engine, but better e.t.s. and trap speeds. So around town when not racing, GM and Ford is doing their customers a disservice with these high rpm engines. Interesting stuff.

Yeah, you're probably right. Oh well, guess I'll just have to rev it harder to make up for it!

Oh yeah! Those things rock for low end. They are so much fun to drive around town from stoplight to stoplight. Look at your rwtq #s for example. What rpm were those at?

Thing is, they all already provide more lowend around town driveability then 90% of the cars on the road even thought they are more "revvier"

I drove a 2v GT then a 4V Mach 1, and the mach 1 didn't have any driveability issues but it sure as hell took off up top compared to the GT

True. The Mach has 3.55 gears, the GT has 3.27 gears. That helps the Mach's low end, some.

This is why they need to reserect the big blocks in modern musclecars. Killer low end and top end compared to small blocks.

Thumbs down Re: L98>LT1>LS1 and 4.62V>all 4.64V

Torque where?

My LT1 makes peak power at 6800rpm, I make my shifts at ~7200rpm. If I'm "cruising" along at 2500rpm or so, I only need push the clutch, rev the engine ~1200rpm and downshift 2 gears and I'm ready to rock and roll. So I don't see your point.

If off-idle torque is "where it's at" then we're all missing the boat when we install aftermarket cams, better flowing heads and so on. Then again, when you start modding your car to make real hp, you'll find that the torque is something you might not want so much of.... especially when you're driving a car that's putting ~570hp to the rear wheels (trying to drive it on street tires) like mine.
