Killed Prelude SH
Killed Prelude SH
There is no import hangout, really around here. Just people with imports know other people and it's all smack talking. There's this guy with a lightly modded Prelude SH everybody is scared of. Civic Sis with strut-tower braces, lowering jobs and intakes will race him and get their asses shut down, and come back with their tail between their legs. Bone stock 1G DSMs with poor drivers bow down to this Prelude. He has an intake, exhaust and a "VTEC controller" (whatever the hell that is)
Anyways, so hanging around with my friend we run into the Prelude guy at the local Subway hanging out with his 2 friends. My friend is the one who informed me about him being "king of the hill" for that particular area, and i decided to challenge him to a race. My friend is a Honda guy, doesn't really like my car too much and tells me "dude, don't even try, you'll get smoked."
I walk in, order a 6" and talk to the guy.
"Hey, that your car?" I ask, pointing my finger out the window to the left to the black prelude directly outside.
"Yeah it is," he says proudly
"I was wondering if youw anted to do a quick run right now" I asked him calmy. His friends looked like they were going to have a heartattack trying to hold int heir laughter, probably pittying me for taking a chance.
"Well, first, what do you drive?" Asks this Prelude owner.
I point across the street and up one from his car where my dirty GTI patientlly waited while I smack talked its newest competitor.
"Stock?" he asks seriously.
"Yes, it's bone stock."
He smiled and said "Okay let me finish up we'll go up to the highway and run 'em."
We discuss who's going to be in either car when running. He tells me since I only have one person with me (My friend hanging his head low in shame feeling sorry for 'poor Jimmy about to get smoked' and his 2 friends in his car)
He claimed it was unfair that I had to carry with me one less passanger, then I showed him all the school stuff I had in and opened the trunk to reveal my subwoofer box, and invited him to check out how big and heavy it was; in other words 3 guys VS 2
with a sub box in the trunk and some misc. crap in the back seat was evenly matched.
So I let him "get his car ready" and cruise at a safe distance behind him to the freeway. It's only one lane on the enterence to the freeway at the red light, so he tried to squeeze beside me and run, but after some other cars piled behind us we figured one could very well be a cop, so i shook my head and he pulled in behind me with the little room that was left over. He pulled into the right lane with me, we went extremely slow and let everyone else pass. Once everybody was good and gone, it was just us. Me and him. The moment of truth.
I switched into the right lane and matched his speed (approx 40-45 mph). He honked once, and by this time I was putting it into second gear and by the third honk I was off. My tach jumped to the 4000+ RPM range and climbed rapidly with me rolling on the throttle quickly, but not flooring it. We were dead even in 2nd, with me inching slightly but slamming the shifter up into third as quickly as possible, I gained half a length on him. I pulled this slowly until it was 1.5 lenghts, then almost 2. Shut it down at around 100-110 mph at roughly 2 carlengths ahead. Although these cars are no LS1s, we were making pretty good speed. Surprisngly, he was cool about it, and we pulled over at the beach and talked. He was shocked as F!Ck that I was stock, so I popped the hood and revealed the stock VR6, dirty but bone-*** stock right down tot he original filter. My Honda friend riding shotgun gives VWs props now, and Mr. Prelude has been de-crowned and kicked off the throne. When I get my F-body I'm going to slap him around like a redheaded stepchild!
Thanks for listening!

It is interesting how hanging with certain people can make the status of your car seem faster, like my friends who think my lightly modded SS is very fast, but I still know my ultimate place in the food chain.Good kill, I had destroyed a few modded SH's in my Talon. They need FI to make any real speed.
In Vancouver we have a pretty well-developed car scene. The Vancouver area consists of 2+ million people, and many are prowling the streets in 500+ hp Mustangs, Supras, etc.
What I forgot to specify is the little car scene they had went on in a small area of Vancouver, between a few import enthusiasts that went to a certain HS or around it. They have their own little car community, and that's their import scene for the guys in HS or who just recently graduated.
I hope that clarifies.
My car is stock right down to the air filter, in answer to your question. It has some audio system modifications and new low-profile tires. With some quick shifting and a good launch, I could pull off a 15.3 maybe, personally.
A good driver can pull of a 14.9 from a Driver's Edition MK3 GTI VR6 bone stock, but I think i'd be in the mid 15s or maye a bit lower.

One of my friends has one of those GTI's...I think it's an '02.....he's got stuff done to it...when I first met him I didn't really take his car to seriously as a potent street machine. Anyways it dyno'd at 215whp
!
So finally he gives me a ride in it....WOW
!!! For a little VW that thing FLEW. By far the fastest non V-8 car I have ever ridden in....so later that night I got the old Z to see how the 12 sec POS350Z would do.....I won...from a stop and from a roll...but I have pulled harder on LT1 cars than I did with that VW...his Nazimobile would DESTROY Mustang GT's.......
350Z
PS Good Kill

i've got a stock exhaust on mine and i was messing with an auto LT1 with some of the usual stuff done. i had about half a car on it and was pulling a little bit when he all of a sudden flew past. turned out my dv hose had worked itself loose.
One of my best friends is an import god around here. He does swaps and stuff for everyone. Anyway I was at his shop the other day and he was putting an 8psi Vortech on a VR6 GTI with basic bolt ons. They were expecting to get about 280hp out of the car when it was finished this weekend.
