me vs c5 vette hardtop

this was from the track a while ago, nothing special really as he was running mid to low 13's all day but it was just a funny story...

i'm running on my street tires (kumho ecsta MX's) which i usally use for autocross, but i didnt have my slicks or drag radials on me and i wa sjust running for ****s and giggles

i see the guy in the black vette running 13.3's all night, im like man he sucks (one time, he floored it at the line, and he was basically doing a burnout, idiot doesnt let off the gas, he starts fishtailing, almost takes out the guy in the other lane, finally lets off, and runs a 16.xx hahaha)

so i tried to line up with him all night, but i kept missing him, finally i get a chance (ok so i waited by the pits and followed him in but whatever)

line up, he's staring at me at the line cuz im wearing a helmet (at this track, 13.9 and under needs a helmet)

probably thinkikng to himself, why the F is a civic driver wearing a helmet?

light goes green, we go, spin first, spin 2nd, miss 3rd from the spinnage/wheelhop, he jumps a car ahead, i grab 3rd and i pretty much just walk on by, and i gave him a look like "shrug shoulders, sorry"

we get our slips...13.1 vs 13.4, and i get out of my car to chat with him, he gets out, doesn't even look at me or acknowledge me trying to get his attention, he waves at his wife, she gets in, and he leaves the track! LOLOLOL

i dunno i thought it was pretty funny. best run of the day for me that day was only a 12.5 @115, my 60's were 2.1's, but man spinning all of first and 2nd really sucks ***

2.1 still isn't a bad short time for a FWD car on street tires. Nice kill.

hehe I'm waiting for the day that I can beat a C5. I see so many douches driving them that would be fun to pick on if my car had some more mods. Nice kill

nice kill! that's pretty surprising to hear.....most vette drivers are more than happy to talk to anyone here.

He was probably shocked and pissed. But I think he might of gotten over it when he looked out into his driveway and realised he had a vette sitting out there instead of a Civic

I would take a 13 second vette over a 10 second Civic any day of the week and twice on Sunday. They are just so much better looking outside and in. After all when both cars are parked at a restaurant, movies, whatever the vette will get the looks and whisles from people passing by not the civic (at least by a vast majority any way).

Nice kill, BTW. I didn't mean to get so offtrack on your kill there. Beating a vette is still a sweet thing and I can't wait till I have enough mods to take a few myself. Nice runs BTW hitting 12.5 with minimal traction.

What's your best run BTW if you don't mind me asking?

see, not everyone is like this but I am apoor college student... i can't afford a vette, or any other nice fast sports car right now. Can't afford the insurance either.

Vettes are hot. I love z06's to death. But the owners tend to be on high horses and think they're the fastest cars ever. I'd rather have a faster car than a slower car, whether i run 10's in a civic, fbod, dsm, or a twin engine beretta. Beating cocky vette owners is fun lol.

anyway, my best time was an 11.95 @ 118.5, but i think it would've gone faster, here's why:

Similar run (1.776 60' vs 1.774 60') i ran a 7.9 1/8 trap at 90mph, and the 1/4 @ 12.1 @ 118...on my 11.9 run i did 7.79 @ 92.2, but i only ran 11.9 @ 118.5...the next run i ran 12.8 with a 1.8 60', and the next 13.6 with a 1.8 60'....

turns out the 4 bolts holding the turbo to the manifold were loose...i lost 2 of them, probably on my 11.9 run, and the other 2 were finger loose, if i took one more run, i think the turbo would've fallen to the ground...so im pretty sure i lost some boost pressure towards the end of the 1/4, so if I had to magazine race, i probably would've hit 11.8 or maybe even 11.79 but i dont really care, i got my 11 sec slip so im happy

Wow that's a very nice run though. Seeing that 11 second time slip must have been pretty sweet. I noticed around me that that the C5 owners tend to be cooler and social but I agree that a lot of Z06 owners tend to be full of themselves.

One day I'll get my vette too but for now the best I can do is the Formula in the sig for 14k. I could have gotten an older vette for that much but then where would I put the carseat?

Doh! stinking two seater vettes. Nice runs and nice kills.

That's true cbring. But also keep in mind the boxster is more or less the "bottom of the barrel" as far as porsches go. The bias here is that most on this board would love to have a corvette.

I remember sitting in a boxster we had at work, it felt horrible! I swear the interior in it was worse than my car. It felt flimsy and low quality. I took it for a quick spin around the block, it felt slow and sluggish. I'm sure it would have felt a little better with the manual transmission. I guess handling is about the only thing that car does well:blah: Oh and I like the styling too.

boxsters sound GREAT. hell, i'd take a boxster or a vette, or a camaro, or an 11 second teal civic.

What, the motors sound great? I started the thing up and I heard all kinds of knocking and clacking....... sounded like it was about to **** itself. I guess they might sound ok at wide open throttle, I didn't beat on the boxster I drove because it wasn't mine.

they sound great driving by when i'm walking around downtown knoxville. they sound great on the autocross course. never paid attention to idle. if they are anything like the new vw/audi's, you can hear the injectors tick like a **** and the engine sounds like it is going to come apart.
