just beat an sti from a dig

short story really i caught a light with an sti i look over and look back to the light. i roll into the gas not wanting to spin and i was expecting to have to play catch up. to my suprise i didnt i dont know if he screwed up his launch or if he didnt want to drop the clutch from 5 grand but he didnt have a great start so i rolled into the gas and took off. since he had lost his biggest advantage he lost the race by about 1 1/2 - 2 cars to 90 where i shut it down. even though he didnt get the best launch i im still proud. but i guess sti's really dont have all that much up top.

They're not forgiving to poor drivers. No launch doesn't just mean he gave away his advantage. It also means he bogged, requiring even longer to get real acceleration.

Then there's the transmission in those cars. First is so short it might as well not exist; at the track the 1-2 shift happens before you pass the timing lights! If he can't shift, it only makes him slower.

Even if he drove perfectly after the takeoff, their 101-102 mph top end isn't enough to pull back on your car so he just stayed in second place. Car companies should repo any performance car that isn't modded within the first 6 months of ownership. Stock is boring!

Good win.

And if you are looking for cheap mods that will wake your car up you can do gears and 1.6rr. Both are fairly cheap and will net gains. The gears are the best bet.

I admit to having stopped at a parts store to mod a vehicle on my way home from purchasing it! Most of my cars at least make it to my driveway before I open the hood.

I've modded every vehicle I've owned. That includes everything from the obvious performance-type cars to a Grand Marquis (9.9 @ 73 in the 1/8th btw) to a 92 GMC truck w/ TBI 350 to my current Dodge truck. When I buy a vehicle I plan to own it for a long time so I might as well enjoy it.
