I'm scared.
I'm scared.
I raced a 350Z last night. It looked modded, but still stock looking. The exhaust looked aftermarket. But I'm scared because from 30-100 he pulled a car or more. He totally took my Launch out of the equation, which is my strong point. I was feeling good after clinging to an LS2 goat so well, but now I LOSE to a VQ!? I don't know anything about them really, but I just thought my car should have trounced it. He was either really well modded or my car is slow as *****.
I'm going to the track this friday and it's my first time out since I've started modding my car.
It's also the first time out on DRs.
I've got:
OEM ram air intake (non WS6 car)
MadZ tune
3.42s (from 2.73s)
Cutout
3200 stall and performabuilt stage 2 tranny.
What is my car capable of? I'm hoping for a 13.2-13.4 but I'm expecting much worse now.
Can you calm my nerves somehow!?

your car should do 12.8-12.99. He had to have more than just exhaust. He most likely had a cam, nos or a turbo. He had to have one of these to pull you. Toss a cc503 cam,LT headers, 1.6rrs and a new tune on your car. You should be in the 12s as your car is; as long as it is running good and it hooks up. With a cam and headers you should break into the 11s. The 2007 350z runs faster; it can run in the low 13s with exhaust work and tune. But to stay with you off the line he had to have more.

I say you will break your rear end with a decent launch. Now if he was a 07+ they have gone as fast as 13.1 stock. In a 1/4 mile a couple tenths can be a car length.
Also I do not see no way no how you will be getting a 12. I feel mid 13s more like it and most likely much worse as its your first time.

If his car dead hooks with the built trans and a 3200 stall; it might break 12s. Just depends on how well the trans is built, how good the stall works, how well the motor runs and weather the car dead hooks or not. The stock motor should not break the rear, I have a much stronger motor and I have not hurt my rear yet. But I don't launch it very often.

Drag radials are hard on the rear ends, full slicks would be less stressful on the driveline as they have more of a sidewall flex.
LSWHO,
Just launch normal and do not try to sidestep the clutch at a high rpm or you could be trailered home.
Also, dont get your hopes high for a good run, just go out with the attitude of having fun. Since its your first outting. Just go by your mph as it will stay fairly consistant and you can base what the car should run off of that.

I am running dr's also. The only thing I have done to the rear is 3.42s with royal purple oil change. There are guys out there running in the 10s with the stock rear. Launching the car often will wear out the rear faster; if it hooks like it should. I doubt it will break right away it will take more than a few runs before it gives out. If it does not hook up look into some control arm relocation brackets, removing front sway bar, good sub frame connectors and a control arm upgrade.

With 240-250rwhp and 3400+lbs you would need a full out slick and to have a converter north of 4400 to get those times. You are expecting a mild set of gears, tires and a small stall to subtract more than 1 second of time from a typical stock car.
Now LSWHO don't get me wrong buddy I think you will enjoy yourself and could possibly get a decent time but as a first time track day with different parts and never launching on DRs I just do not see a 12. Just have fun and report back.

I also said I need a decent amount of suspension to actually hit 12s.
Nowhere in this post did I say anything about me actually hitting 12s.
Be sure to scan your slip in and post it up once you get back. Also, dont forget to lower the air pressure in the drag radials when you get there. Another good tip is put 44 psi in the front tires to minimize contact patch on the front.
