I was cruising home from my buddy's house this afternoon feeling pretty good about the times I turned at the dragstrip yesterday.(See Sig) I was looking to lay the smack down on an unsuspecting Stang or ricerboy, but not many people were out today, probably due to the Holiday. So anyways, I look in my rearview mirror and I see a Jaguar cutting through traffic. Lo and behold we wind up next to each other at the light with a mile of straight empty road in front of us. I look over at the Jag which is sitting about half a car back from me and I notice that the driver is about seventy or so. Suddenly all hope is lost. The light turns green and I leave the intersection slowly, as does the Jag. We're about halfway across the intersection when I hear screeching tires behind me. I look over to the left to see the Jag coming on hard. By the time I stand on it he's about even with my front bumper. He gets about a fender on me and then neither one of us gains an inch. I shift into second and he's still next to me, and then I hit third and begin to BARELY reel him in. I think I gained about two feet on him through third gear and then I shut it down, since the speed limit is 35 and I didn't feel like going to jail today. He stayed in it another couple seconds and then let off. I stopped behind him at the light and I noticed a badge on the rear of the car that said "Super V-8". I don't know what year the car was but it looked really new and I believe it was a four-door. Does anybody know if this is one of the supercharged Jags or have any other info on this car? Sorry for the long post, but I just had to share this one.

Jags are quick (most of them), but I really haven't seen any that widened my eyes in terms of performance. Some of them think that just because it's a Jag its fast and others have their 10 second ride at home...

There is one Jag out there, 4 door, supercharged V8..i think i remember reading it puts out around 390 HP..the ad said 0-60 in like 5.2 seconds..maybe thats what you ran into???

 

XJR New body style for 2004 looks similar to the old body style. Great deal used, get a 1999 one with 390HP for 20K, tops.

It probably was one of the new XJR's, as it looked fairly old-school to me. All I know is that I have $10,000 in my car, including purchase price, mods, and a new engine. Man it's fun going fast for cheap! Rock on. By the way, the Jag driver wouldn't even look over at me when I pulled up next to him and gave him a thumbs up. Oh well, he was probably on the phone with the guy that sold him that car.
