I never thought they were that great either until I test drove one and eventually bought one. I personally dont care what people think about the car, so I could care less that it's "just a Neon". I'm a Muscle Car guy at heart and currently own a classic F-Body aswell, so I'm not just some glorified ricer. The car has some serious potential, and for the price it's practically unbeatable.
As for this race, it seems like the LT1 should take him...
Re: Highly Potential Race against a Neon SRT-4
They used to make two door neons they could easily make them again.Especially is their supposed sports car but then again they are bringing out a four door charger shortly..
Way to go dodge!!
But they also make the gorgeous viper and new crossfire which is a very sweet car just saw the new srt 6 silver ragtop.NICE!!! 330 HP too!!
I don't really care that much about my winter all season car.I considered a wrx but they were just too much money for what you get and got a 92 talon awd turbo at auction locally.I think its a nice looking car get compliments on it all the time especially from females
And awd will destroy any front wheel drive car on street tires and on so so roads. The neon srt 4 is a decent bang for the buck new car but really my fourth gen wasn't that much more than it sold for and my ls1 is much much nicer and better in every way then a four door neon. But like you said I test drove one and they are fun,any turbo is and with drag tires they are obviously a force to be reckoned with and expect to possibly lose to one eventually although all my cars get more modded every year so it would take an aftermarket turboed neon like my talon to come close. No stock turbo neon could take my other cars especially on street rubber.
Anyway more than happy to keep my old but still awesome 92 talon right now.
But for sure won't be parting with my 99 ta or 96z vert unless get a new c6 or something.

Stock SRT-4s give me trouble sometimes with my mods. I have to get a killer launch to hold them off through the 1/4 mile.
Re: Highly Potential Race against a Neon SRT-4
The turbo neons I've seen at the track over the last couple months were pushing mid-high 14's. I was a little disapointed after all the talk about them going 13's in stock form, especially since it was colder weather.
When is this race gonna happen? I'll be lookin forward to another one chalked up on the board for the f-bodys!

Re: Highly Potential Race against a Neon SRT-4
Soon...soon...the kid home with with the 94 Talon is going to contact the kid with the SRT-4 and we'll all take turns racing on a local empty freeway. Both have called me out and I intend to respond with two well earned kills.

Re: Highly Potential Race against a Neon SRT-4
The vert might seem a little slow as our track is 1900 feet above sea level and density air is usually a lot higher due to humidity. That day I got the 14.3 had high headwind also. And best 60ft was a 2.18 there was no track prep that day.I am sure I could easily get a high 13 on less windy day and better track prep.A 2.0 with nittos should be easy enough.I also think might have an opti problem as my mph still seems a bit low and did have a water pump weep and all over it.I have run high 13s on the street several times
Again I am not scared of a stock neon on street tires. The one I test drove wouldn't launch for crap on the stock rubber. But guess see what happens at the track next season if there are some that actually hit the 13s stock.
My mods on the vert are mild this year,3.42 auto, airfoil, cold air, magnaflow catback,tb bypass.Even most ls1 cars at my track only manage a high thirteen to low 14 stock and stock lt1s are normally mid 14 and up too.
Now hear turbos can compensate for altitude a bit so again see how they do.And hey srt 4 guys I don't hate the car I like turbo cars.I have one.Just think the srt4 would be a lot nicer as awd and two door. Then it would hook like crazy on street tires and really turn some good numbers on the street.
But just read chrysler is getting rid of nearly all their two door coupes and planning to bring out the new charger as 4 door only..
I sure as heck won't be buying a new charger..4 door what a joke..
Whats next a 4 door viper..?

Yes, altitude and high density altitude suck! I race at 4000' with da's above 7000' sometimes. The SRT-4s seem to lose less power at altitude than a n/a car from my experience. See what the stock ones run at your track the same night you run and we will have a better comparison.
Re: Highly Potential Race against a Neon SRT-4
Well its not always possible to know what cars are stock or not as don't always get to talk to the owners or get truthful response. Is stock stock turbo or stock boost or what..Its gets to be pretty grey area sometimes.
Heck I will keep telling the track guys my car is stock as only allowed 13.5 with a vert now but there is new class as long as you are stock no nitrous then you can run whatever I think.I mean 13.5 and then you need rollbar.
So the verts track days are likely over this season as this years plans are 1.6 rockers, stall converter and et street radials or buddies used bfg drag radials.I figure will be easily low 13s with that combo and also have underdrive pulleys, maf translator and lt1 scanmater for tuning.
It was unfortunate the only srt4 at the track last time ran a 16.5 with pretty obvious missed shift the time I watched and didn't get to see it run personally again so not 100% sure what it got after that.I expect bone stock street tired srt 4 based on hp and weight to run around mid 14s low 14s at our track and talking stock ,stock boost bone stock. But since have turbo car know how easy it is to dial up boost. My talon with fubared stock slipping clutch at 10psi on aftermarket turbo ran 14.3 at 100mph with a 2.24 60ft on my tazzo vpc.I also ran my tazzo vpc on the track and compared. It was a tenth faster than track and mph was 2.5mph higher and 60ft was right on.I figure have around 300hp at engine at 10psi on my big aftermarket garrett 50 trim on my talon.I was running 10psi because of stock intercooler and the clutch won't handle more right now.Hi perf clutch is waiting to go in.Hoping for low 12s out of the talon this season possibly 11s.Likely at 25 psi, with good front mount intercooler and the new clutch.
Anyway off topic. The srt 4 is a cool car.And potential if very decent even stock and of course once you start swapping turbos the skies the limit.Seen a srt4 put out lot of power with turbo swap in mag.Think over 400 at the engine.
But of course a turbo v8 will crush a turbo 4 banger so thats my next project for my 99 trans am.

Has the race taken place yet? Hasn't it been something like a year that it's been discussed?
