Your thoughts have gotten answered. Motortreand has done a story on the SRT-10 Ram Vs the New(soon)Lightning 500HP truck.
Go to Motortrend.com and look under Track Results for trucks and bam there it is.
The Stock V6 Stang is no match for the Hemi short cab BTW We raced one over at the Airport drags here and got it by .7 of a second. Marty(my friend with the Ram 4X4)ran a 16.1(uncorrected)Vs the Stangs(our friend too)16.8. Corrected thats about where it should be. The V6 Birds/Camaros are a better match but the same outcome. If he beat the Stang in a Ext.Cab imagine what the Short cab could do. Oh my friend has a Raven muffler and a K&N filter on his 03 Hemi Ram.

You know, my wife's 99 V6 Mustang ran basically stock 15.3's@91...if she ever lets me take it out again and get some more practice, I know I can get 15.1's, maybe 15.0's out of it.

Like I said...it should be a good run.

Thats a 16.5 here in El Paso, Texas. Same numbers we got. Should be ok of a race. If the ram came with a Stick shift that would be great.

I think the stock 'puter holds the Hemi back.....it's most noticable off the line....I was reading where the truck can sense a load on it and won't give 100% when it senses no load.....I'm seaching for the fix......like I said the Mustang was a pretty good run for the old Dodge...he did have a run on me though....I might have beaten him harder if we had an even start......for the money there is not a better TRUCK...the Lightning is not a real truck.....I need somthing to tow my Z when I move

Look for Mopar to be coming out with something in the next few months in the form of a Performance ECM like they did for the 5.2 and 5.9. Fastchip is getting on it as well as Superchip. Once those are available then you'll see your true potential. Too bad its a Dodge, lol. I have one so I am also making fun of my Ram. Laters

I wonder how much money it would take to get your truck to run, stop, handle and have the perks a Lightning has? You start adding things up...and your best overall bang for the buck goes out the window.

To say the Lightning is not a real truck is rather silly...no one says a Lightning is a tow truck, but it does have a payload of 1350 lbs and tow rating of 5000 lbs...more than enough to pull my Z28 on a trailer easily. More than enough for me to haul basically whatever I want within reason.

CANTONRACER......no doubt from an all out performance standpoint you can't beat the Lightning for the money.....for 3K I could put a blower on the Hemi and it would have 500hp.....I'm sure with 500hp I could hang with most Lightnings....by a real truck I ment just that a real truck......Lightnings are much more street oriented.....if I wanna go on the back roads I don't want to worry about ground effects getting ripped off....etc.....

BTW..your car on a car trailer will put you right at or over 5k pounds....I towed my Z on a Uhaul trailer with my old truck, a Dodge Dakota.....the car, trailer, and stuff in my car weighed almost 6,500lbs......I was changing duty stations and had the rig weighed.....

Thats where the SRT-10 comes into play. The SRT-10 will cost about 40-$45,000. Thats a lot of molla. the next Gen Lightning will cost around the same. So the battle will finally get on its way in the truck world. Since there are no more Camaro/Firebird Vs Mustang anymore this is the next big thing.

I wish somebody would build a 4x4 truck meant for serious towing and four wheeling that hauled major a**! Something like a Ranger with a built 460 from the factory. Or a Dakota with a built Viper motor. Something reasonably lightweight not like these pig Lightnings and SRT-10s that weigh too much.

Slower than what? Also, they don't have a low range and are hardly meant for the rubicon.

The big dodge dakota sport 4 door w/a 5 speed ran a 15.6 in the quarter with a 4.7 liter v8 . Thats faster then the RT was with its 5.9 .

I had a 1999 dakota that kept a good pace with an Iroc . It was a 5 speed . I traded it for my first LT1 .
I thought about keeping the truck and putting a blower on it .
The new Dodges for the most part are pretty nice cars these days . the SRT-4 is nothing short of spectaculare .
As far as the hemi , thats bad azzzzzzzz

It's either a 4.7 or a 5.2.

Yeah those Dakotas are nice fast 4x4s. That would be my choice if I was in the market for an inexpensive pickup.
