GTO story

I've been hearing that the new GTO's were pigs and were not really impressive. Well the other night I raced one and he smoked me. My times are listed below. I mean he had thirty day tags on and everything.

I pulled up beside him, I could not get him to look at me to see if we were going to race or not. When the light turned green I did not stomp it because well i didnt want to look stupid if he didnt want to race (stupid me). He stomped it and pulled away, by the time I got into it he was about a half a car ahead of me. It stayed that way until about 45 then he walked away from me. the end.

I think that if it would have been known that we were going to race, then it might have been closer. But theres no way I would have out ran him with out the spray.

I mean I run low 13's, and he pulled me like that. Lesson learned I'll never call them slow again.

the Corvette weighs 3,179, and the GTO weighs 3,725, not lighter by any means, but still has a 400 hp ls2, not a slouch.

Re: GTO story

I would love to run an 05 just to see where I stand (on street tires of course)

Good run nonetheless.

LOL, I don't know where you've been hearing that '05 GTOs are pigs......but that's not true at all. Oh well, at least you got to learn that fact firsthand.

Re: GTO story

I'm pretty sure he thought the goat was a pre-05, b/c if it was he would of won (or lost by a c*nt hair). I didn't know that upped the power on the gto's for 05 until I ran into one on the street. and i thought he was a ricer b/c he had one of those retarded mongoose hoods on it (which i guess is standard now for gto's?)

Re: GTO story

Nice death, lol. The 04 GTO's with LS1's werent the fastest thing around. I beat one with just Headers, catbach, CAI and a Madwolf PCM tune. Not bad for him having 10 years on me. He had 30 day tags too. But to beat an 05 with a 400hp LS2, then your talking lots of bolt on's and a cam, and even then its going to be very close.

I dont think you would need a cam to beat one but maybe. Im just going off of gmhtp, they tested one and it ran low 13s.

Yea, 13.2 @ 106mph. I guess you wouldnt need one but a little extra cam never hurt anyone The trap speed would be my biggest concern. I'll let you know how a full bolt on LT1 A4 would fair against one if I ever meet one around here

Re: GTO story

I bet with my current setup without the good tune (dyno'd friday 363hp 349tq), i would be similar with a goat with an LS2. the number say im at around 400 at the crank like the GTO. After a tune i could walk one i would imagine. But hey, who knows, the guy with the GTO isnt going to be stock in most cases....

Numbers straight from GMHTP: 2005 GTO LS2: 341.1 HP @ 5852rpm and 333.9 ft/lbs @ 4565. Your numbers plus a good weight advantage would make for a pretty easy win.

Re: GTO story

Saw a 2005 Goat on a direct port spray run 11.7 last week at the track. The stock '04 LS-1 out there was running 13.4. They are fast cars and from what I hear they handle great too. Too bad the styling doesn't grab me, but after seeing them perform...it's got me thinking now.

Not to take away from the LS2, as I agree it is the top dog when compared to a LS1, but making up the difference between these motors is only a matter of bolting on parts. I have a feeling there will be more than a few people that try picking on an LS1 GTO that leave with their tail between their legs...
