Gt500

Anyone race one yet?

Last weekend on the way home from my girlfriend's house I had a run in with a couple of kids trying out their parent's new toy...

I was disappointed with it, I figured it would smash me. It stayed one length behind me from a dead stop until about 90 when I started slowly pulling away. I don't really know the extent of mods in my car; I figure it has some stuff hiding inside the engine, cause it had a line lock on it. But I didn't expect it to take on a 450hp+ GT500 Mustang.

Question--how do you have a skip-shift eliminator on an A4 car?

Yeah someone told me about skip shift and I didn't know what it was, but I never saw the light or anything and heard talk of an eliminator so I figured that was on the car.

That writeup was old, I made it right when I got the car so I had no idea what that was. As a matter of fact, it doesn't have an aftermarket TB either, it just had one of those little plates that go on the top and I thought it was aftermarket.

But anyhow I don't have a reason to lie about it. You guys act like you don't believe it... I wouldn't have posted it if it didn't happen.

Well, I thought the magazine times for the GT500 were only in the high 12's , so it's not unreasonable to think that a modded LT1 can run with that .

Pretty bad when you think about it ..... ~300 HP = +/- ~500 HP!!

people dont realize the weight of that lead sled. everyone tells me i would get creamed by one of them "its got 500hp!" which im sure i have more than that at the crank myself, but...... i just get the feeling there is going to be a lot of upset people who buy one and lose to an "inferior" car that was discontinued over 4 years ago. unless they mod the hell out of them.

yea, The Gt500 straightline performance has been a little disappointing since everyone was expecting it to be alot faster than the '03-'04 cobras which its only a little faster.
However, they can pick up alot with the correct bolt on's. In this months Hot rod they feature a GT500 with drag shocks and struts, cat back, cold air intake and tune went 11.8 on DR's. with a ported blower, smaller pulley, headers and a stand alone intercooler the car went 10.4@132 on slicks. They feel they can get it in the 9's with a little more tunning and a couple more bolt on's then they are gonig to install a aluminum 6.2 litre stroker and try for 8's and still be completly streetable.
It's in this months HOT ROD starting on page 70 for people who think I'm BS'ing

Yeah I got the same reaction when I came and told it to my friends.

You know the stories of guys catching huge fish and noone believes them? It's like that, except in reality the fish wasn't that big. Looking over the specs, those things are heavy turds. Why don't they give them fiberglass bodies like the Camaros and Vettes?

Seems like too much work ($$$) to achieve those #'s, considering the initial cost of the car, and the fact that it's "already" ~500 HP!!!

The '03/'04 Cobras are way more impressive IMO . I got spanked by one on the highway, and I'd be willing to bet it was stock. I've also seen them out on road courses, and they're surprisingly really damn fast!!

I don't care how great the guys over on the SVT forums or wherever think they are, the GT500's are disappointing under-achievers IMO .

I mean, a good LS1 can hit 12's (not many, but a few), which isn't far behind the GT500, a C6 (LS2, 400 HP) can run about the same times as the GT500, a C5 Z06 (LS6, ~405-"ish" HP ) can run into the 11's STOCK (w/DRs) which is what the modded GT500 ran, and a C6 Z06 is already a low-11 / high-10 second car!

And yes, LT1's sometimes don't get the credit they deserve ... I've got a buddy who ran 13.7 @ 100 mph with a bone stock '97 Z28 with nothing but a pair of DRs on the back ..... my LS1 has run slower on bad days!

This months 5.0 magazine has a PHP Shelby GT500 featured in it. It had the following mods:

high flow airbox and filter
bassani high flow cats
magnaflow after cat exaust
2.6 inch pulley (13.5 psi)
ported throttle body inlet
tune
adjustable third link and LCA's.

The car ran a best of 11.36 at 124.35. They then added long tube headers and ran 10.90's. The car has a lot of potential.
