I was on my way to work last week, when a shiny silver Nissan Quest pulled out of a grocery store near my house (note- leaning waaayyy over!) and hammered it until he hit traffic on this side road. I came up behind him and when I signaled to get onto the highway entrance ramp, so did he.
He was leaning very hard in the corners of the ramp (note, I usually out-corner most cars on this ramp with two 90 degree turns!), staying ahead of me, and when he hit the highway he walked me badly from 55 when we cleared traffic. Never had that happen before!
Note, I was not in my '91 SHO, I was in my '01 Stratus ES 2.7L, running premium.
However, the minivan had Tennessee Manufacturer plates, so I suspect it's a drivetrain mule. What it's got, I have no idea - I backed off at 80 when I realized I didn't have a prayer catching him and he kept the hammer down. I have no such issues with V6 Honda Accords or BMW 325's in the Stratus until the speed limiter. Being I live in Northeast CT and the way it was being driven, I think it's for a durability testing trip pre-production. I'd hate to see a soccer mom in a 14 second Minivan in the snow up here!

i think the current ones have like 260HP. V6 cars are no joke these days..most are pushing close to 300hp.

With Super unleaded, the Stratus is rated @ 200 BHP. Regular, @ 185.
I've got to weigh at least 800 lbs less than that Minivan!
My car runs slightly faster than a Mini Cooper-S 0-100, so it's not a slouch, though it's not nearly as fast as my SHO.
That MFR plate minivan walked me while rolling from 55 or so once we cleared traffic. I'd say it was a match for my SHO, which is only slightly slower than a stock STI or turbo V6 Audi S4 5-100 (Both got barely 1.5 carlengths on me). That's one fast Minivan, which makes me think it's a drivetrain mule with a 4.5 v8 or something else like a turbo V6 to compete with the Ford Ecoboost V6.

2013 Quest: 260 hp, 240 tq, 4371lbs = 16.8 pounds per horsepower, 18.2 pounds per lbft.
2011 Stratus: 200hp, 193 tq, 3250lbs = 16.25 pounds per horsepower, 16.8 pounds per lbft.

Note that if the Nissan had manufacturer plates on it, it may have been more or less powerful than what I've said here.

Power-to-weight is pretty comparable, with a slight edge going to the Stratus. Stratus has a bigger advantage in torque-to-weight. This is ignoring the weight of the driver and whether the gas tanks were full / etc. If you're 250 lbs and had a full tank and the Nissan driver was 150 lbs and had a near empty tank, that completely turns the tables on power-to-weight.

Stratus should also have an aero advantage.

The Nissan has a CVT and you have a 4-speed auto, so he'd be able to stay in his power band MUCH more effectively than you would. That makes a huge difference.

I think if it was a drivetrain mule with a 4.5 V8, you would have gotten DESTROYED, not walked. My guess is that the upcoming Quest will have the 3.7 and that's what beat you.

Of course, bench racing is all guesswork. You got beat.

Haven't been on the board for a while - work's been nuts.
No, I'm not making that up. That thing was way faster than a Dodge Grand Caravan I ran into a month ago and had no problem taking down from a 55 roll (He didn't want me to pass him on a 4-lane highway, and I realized that as he was trying to block me - until I matted it at 65). I'd seriously rate that Nissan in the mid 14's, and since most minivans are areodynamic bricks, the fact he was STILL pulling away @ 90 means he had some serious power under the hood.
