You can shift quickly without being abusive. You'll find out 'cause abusive = broken parts. I've run 1.70 60ft's since 1992 and never broke a tranny on any of my DSMs or Stealths. I have broken a shift fork in an Eclipse and a Mirage turbo but that was my fault.
