Gonna Race A turbo DelSol
I've got a race lined up between me (car/mods in sig) and a turbo del sol. I don't know much about the del sol other than its got T3/T4 turbo pushing 15psi and an intercooler. I presume he has a Vtec engine but I dont know for sure. Anyway, the guy works off-shore so I can't race him until after next Tuesday. We'll be going from a stop so I think that'll help me out a lot....what do you guys think? I'm kinda nervous about this one. Oh and I"ll be taping it but I'll need someone to host it for me.
Re: Gonna Race A turbo DelSol
You will own him out of the hole unless he has some really good tires. Get some DRs yourself. Watch out on the top end. That will be his best chance if he has a chance at all. Good luck and keep us posted.
Re: Gonna Race A turbo DelSol
Yeah I'm figuring on beating him out of the hole and tryin to hold him off for the rest of the race. I've got 3.23's/posi and an auto so I'm O.K. as far as driveline goes, 3.73's and a stall would be better but oh well...the only problem I'm forseeing is my tires....some generic "winston winner" 's (245's)......and I wont be able to get any drag radials before the race so I guess I'll just cross my fingers and hope for the best.

Ehh i am gonna hafta say you might just loose this one man. That is only if he really has a decent turbo and all the supporting mods and can drive. If it is just a stock del sol with a turbo kit and 5psi you will own him. But if he really has a motor built to handle 15psi in a car that light and he can drive the car to its potential then you are in for some trouble.
Re: Gonna Race A turbo DelSol
Get him off of the line and never look back! LS1's pull up top pretty good, I think you can hold him off if you get him outta the hole good enough - just make sure to roll into your launch. Don't get all nervous and floor it, or you're gonna spin and he's gonna make some boost while your going nowhere.
Re: Gonna Race A turbo DelSol
Are the de sols front wheel drive? And does he have drag tires on it.?
The fwd cars don't hook for crap on street tires and turbos put out so much torque that they usually run awful times on the street unless from a good roll.
Buddy has an old subaru with around 300hp engine. The car weighs like 2500 or something its super light but the fwd not awd version. Its a subaru xt 1985 or 86.
He has raced me many many times and best he could get was a high 15.His car should hit 13s I would say on drag tires maybe even 12s but on the street on street tires he sucks. From a roll its pretty impressive but it can blow the tires off at 3000 rpm in just about any gear. They are small tires too.
I raced a turboed nitrous civic at the track with my 96 vert. The guy was trash talking the vert and was boasting how he would be running at least a low 14 or 13 quartermile.I think he just bought the car.He had street tires.I had nittos.I ran a 14.3 at 96 mph with a 2.18 60ft and didn't even bother to heat up my tires. He ran a 16.5 at 85 with a 2.85 60ft.I think he spun so bad that he just gave up.It was a massacre.
If the de sol is on street tires you should eat him up if you launch reasonable but he might run you down.I would think with a big turbo he could put down 300 engine hp at 15 psi possibly more.
I know a bit about turbo cars having a 92 awd turbo talon with a big garrett turbo. It can put out over 500 engine with supporting mods out of a puny 2.0 engine. And it can get 1.6 or better 60fts on street tires!!! But its awd!! That is the key.Fwd and street tires and turbos or too much nitrous equal big time wheel spin.Put drag tires on them and they can turn some amazing times. They are light as heck compared to our heavy f bodies.
I bet on you but from a high roll he might be worthy competition.
