Formula vs. 2002 Mustang GT

My next race is versus a kid w/ a 2002 Rustang GT

His Mods:
Catback + X Pipe, 4.10 gear, 5speed, short throw shifter
(He hasnt had the car that long and prolly isnt the best driver but doesnt suck either)

I think it will be close and he will prolly pull on my near the top like most mustangs. I plan to race from a dig. What are my chances?
I will report back soon.

And with that said...I have some for sale. PM me.

The race comes down to the driver. A good driver with those mods in good weather is mid 13 second capable.

One day, you're gonna run into the wrong "Rustang".

Re: Formula vs. 2002 Mustang GT

If you are both on street tires think you will win. Doubt he can hook up those 4.10 , I sure couldn't in my 97 ta ws6 and in my 99 ta ws6 when had 4.10 with street tires. On nittos or et street radials or bfg drag radials then would give the edge to the stang. Also 5 speeds lose less power .Also since he is manual many chances for him to screw up and not many for you. Autos rule for drag races do to being consistent. Don't blow your tires off too bad and you should have him off the line and don't think he will run you down with mods you said. Headers for sure would make it pretty much guaranteed win for your car.But personally would go for stall and some nittos first.
I did similar mods in my 96z vert. First 3.42 as had 2.73s and then 2800 vig and lately nittos and some suspension mods. I can waste the average car off the lights really really badly. The awd vehicles and other cars on drag type tires are my only real competion now off the lights. And I destroyed a jeep cherokee v8 three times in a row off the line with my nittos even pre stall last year. He was shaking his head that a rwd car could keep up to his awd vehicle. The nittos are not very obvious and easy to overlook..HIS MISTAKE!! LOL

I have a V8 Jeep Cherokee AWD and its slow as hell coming from the line or any speed? I would expect a stock bicycle to pull on one from the hole.

Re: Formula vs. 2002 Mustang GT

You should win no problem.. I have raced a full bolt-on bullitt mustang (minus headers) on the street, and beat him with about 2 cars. I am setting up a race with a full bolt on 99+GT if the weather holds, and see where that ends up. With those gears, they are only good through 4th, and some are stupid enough to stay in it through 5th.

Not meant to be a dis but w/ your times you shouldnt be beating any full bolt on 99-04 GT...They run similar times as a Lt1 bolt on for bolt on...W/ stangs the driver makes a world of differance.

Re: Formula vs. 2002 Mustang GT

i ran my friend who has the same mods listed except 4.10's and it was almost even all the way. in the end i think he had my by about 1 foot.

but of course this was when all I had on the car was an exhaust. it still had the stock airbox on it.

Re: Formula vs. 2002 Mustang GT

I think your launch will detemine the outcome. If you get a good launch, I think youll pull one out. Although some good 1 3/4" headers would seal the deal, you should be able to get him. I say loose some weight, take out your seats and whatever else you can to get a slight edge on him. I raced one with the same mods when I had just a catback and beat him, but evenyone drives different with different cars. I have seen 99-04's run 14.7's with a catback, but I also ran a Bullit stang stock (so he says) when I had LT's/CAI/catback and I pulled a couple cars on him.

Good luck, hope he sucks at driving, 4.10's are a HUGE mod for those cars since they have no low end TQ. Get some headers.
