first time at track....little long

my first time at the track and had no clue what i was doing til my last run. i went there with a group, some from cz28.com here. i was content racing the clock i told myself, but we all know how competetive we get.
1st run- new(er) buick regal w/ sc. friendly driver giving me tips, all around cool guy. i drove through the water (no way around it) didnt burn out cause i dont have to do that on the street. i spun alot off the line, catch up and blow by the regal. 13.3 vs 14.1

2nd- an old buick regal, 86ish. whats witht he buicks im thinking. the driver starts giving my hard looks and staring me down. can hear the the cam in his car and he has the stereotypical buick cowl induction hood. i burnout to help my launch. neck and neck til the end. i edge him out 13.2 vs 13.3

3rd- had to wait forever for the last run, car blew a head gasket and sprayed oil everywhere. while that was going on i noticed im lined up to take on a dodge dakota 5.9 w/nos and someother goodies under the hood. driver seemed nice, but someone else came up to me i guess to start sh*t and told me the driver was really talking some smack. the mess finally got cleared and within minuts we staged. i powerbraked the hell out of the car. i see him purge, and we're off. smoked him, which i woudnt have cared except the trash talk. 13.1 @111mph vs 14.0

never knew the track was this much fun.

Why did you have to go through the water? What trackk were you at atco? You should do a little burnout w/ the street tires just to clean em off...btw good mph on the last run.Yea the tracks a ball cant wait to get something worth running there again

Nice runs, especially the 2nd one. It really gets the blood going, doesn't it?

Re: first time at track....little long

Glad to see you had fun at the track!

Are you still running all of the mods in your sig? (00 z28 a4. lid, bfg g-force dr's, mac mid headers, orp, tsp rumbler cb, tune. sfc's, prc stage 2.5 heads, tsp custom cam. (233/239 .600/.605 112lsa)

If you had bfg dr's why didn't you burn the crap out of them? (I take it from your posts you were running street tires?)

What were your 60'ft times? I would expect a heads and cam LS1 to be out of the 13's? Given it was your first time to the track it is understandable. (I wasn't trying to be mean, the fun is more important then the time by far)

yes, all the mods in the sig... on dr's too. never had to burn them, usually (w/o water) they dead hook. 60's were 2.25, 2.17, 2.15.
i did expect to be in the 12's with the mods but my car is slow out of the gate with a stock tc, ls1 intake, and 2.73's outback. so all of that will be replaced. the last pass i did burn the hell out of the tires and only picked up a tenth.
and yes it does get the blood going.

Shouldn't DRs get you a better 60 than that? I'd expect lower than 2.0s. A new TC will wake it up bigtime; with shorter gears you'll really start having traction problems at that point.

I love going to the track. I've raced every vehicle I've ever owned just for the fun of it. The smack talk is an important part of the track. I ran my old 93 Grand Marquis at the 1/8 mile track and was accused of spraying because it ran a 10.1 (stock, 135k miles)

Get those 2.73s out of there! If you had a higher gear you'd easily be 12s.

Did you spin all the way down the track?????????????? With stall and gears, that's a mid to low eleven @ 119 plus setup. You should be baking the crap out of those drag radials. Your whole car engulfed in smoke before you let off the brake to spin up and stage. I've got a good friend in Fairless Hills that I'm going to send over to smack some sense into you! J/K! Congrats on the kills and your times can only get better from here.

wouldnt the 11.x second cars do better than 119? my 13.1 netted me a 111mph trap, so id guess 11.9 should be around 125ish. or am i way off? i was afraid id break something if i baked the tires too much. i cant shake the thought of the stock rear being made of glass.

Way off. With a moderate 60' (1.7-1.8) an 11.9 will be @115 or so. You'll pick up a few mph with the stall and gears . . . and will be in your powerband longer. I think once you work the bugs out you'll be suprised how much faster it would run. Also, you gotta mess with the tire pressures also. Stall and gear that thing!

Nick - I wouldn't be the one you are referring to . . . am I, haha. I was at the track with him but didn't smack him around . . . I needed him to drive me to the auto parts store to get a replacement belt that my car developed an appetite for.

Believe me when I read that you were there doing shakedown runs, I figured you were too focused to help anybody. The friend that I was referring to was in the Marine Corps with me years ago. I used to go up to Fairless Hills after running at Cecil on Friday nights and stay the weekend. Just dump the power steering pump. You don't need it anyway with those freakin Guns you've got. Do you still have the AC?

It depends on your 60' and how your tranny and gears don't keep you in your ideal powerband long enough. Each .5 that you can reduce your 60' will give you about .1 on the big end. Once you get the 60' down to a 1.8 you would be looking at mid 12's. When my car had stock internals, 3.23's, CAI and catback it was running 13.4 @102.5. After I added headers and 3.73's it dropped to 12.85 @107.5 . . .on stock stall. Gears and stall will make that a totally different car.

Nick - I remember you talking about him . . . and following me part way back from when my car started to eat it's first belt that night, haha. I fixed the loose pump issue, so I can be a little girl and keep p/s It still has the A/C also . .. car looks exactly the way it did when you last saw it, but no where near as tame. Got any times on the ZO6?

Re: first time at track....little long

The track is fun and addictive. I know a couple people running similar setups
and both are in the low 12s with heads/cam/headers and the usual bolt ons. One is on nittos and runs 2.08 60fts the other is on cooper zeons think he said and he runs mid 12s. They have a lot higher mph but are six speed cars.
Still seems that your car is pretty darn low mph wise. Not sure how much those doggy 2.73 gears hurt maybe a lot.
Have you had that car tuned properly. Bolting on headers without tuning on ls1 usually makes them slow and pig rich. I would think with a 2.0 60ft even and decent tune you should still be in the 12s and for sure low 12s ,11s with a stall and some nice 3.42 or 3.73 gears.
Both guys know with around 500 engine hp and one lt1 guy are on stock original rear ends still but neither has gotten better than about a 2.0 60ft. One runs 275 17 inch nittos, one 315 / 17 inch and the one is on those cooper zeons? Real drags like bfg or et streets will be harder on the rearend. Think the life of rear gets shortened fast under 2.0 but you have a auto so the rear can last a lot longer.
I can believe you might dead hook now on the stock gears. You simply maybe don't have enough gear or stall to get better 60fts right now. If you are dead hooking not much you can do to get better 60ft.

I had similar experiences to your racing last time at our local track.
I was racing my 96z vert heavy and was nearly stock but still fun.
I almost beat my buddies bolt on /headered 99taws6 as he was on street tires and I was on nittos. He got nervous and blew his launch bad. I ran 14.4 to his 14.2. He ran a 13.2 later that night. Our track is at 1900feet which hurts too. I then ran a cocky ricer in a turboed /nitroused civic. They were talking trash about how their car would easily run a 13s..yada yada...slow old vert..yada yada.. I ran a 14.3 and they ran a 16.5!! LOL I had 3.42 gears and other minor mods in my auto vert. 3800 pounds raceweight. Not sure what happened to the turboed, nitrous civic or if he was running spray.
Next smoked a honda desol ..he ran a 17.0 Then killed a mean sounding 5.0 vert.. he managed a 16 to my 14.4.
Last run of night got beat barely by a et street tired old mustang that ran a 14.0 to my 14.3. It was pretty close. My mph was around 95 to 96. Best 60ft not heating up the nittos ,I had whiplash and couldn't really back into waterbox was 2.18.
For comparision buddies header and minor bolt on 99taws6 ran like 108 or so mph at 1900 feet. Buddies cam/header/heads bolt on 99 SS six speed runs like 116mph at 1900ft.
Like I said no offence but you need something done with your car. Unless autos lose that much mph to driveline loss over six speeds.
