Finally 5spd '06 GT vs auto Formula

So in recent months since I have gotten my Formula, I have gone up against a handful of new Stang GT. But never an all out from a dig race. We both take off at the light. I get a 1/2 car jump and and shift before he does and he catches up. Every shift our cars gain/lose a 1/4 car but both catch back up to eachother. At 95mph we are both door to door. I felt I was starting to inch away, but with an upcoming turn and a light within distance, I slowed down.

I got to the light and had him roll down his window. I asked him what trans it was and he said 5spd. I said the obvious "We were neck and neck the whole way." He laughed and was surprised too. Smiled and Waved and both went on our ways.

There is a light and day difference between the auto 3vs and the 5spds. I wonder what the outcome would've been if I had a 6pd LT1. Anyway, it felt good to not get beat by 13 year newer technology.

Just thought I would share.

Good win.

He should have beat you though. He may not be faster but his car is quicker. The autos are even more regulated as the factory specs on the pcm limit the power dramatically while having low shift points. The hand held tuners make those cars fly!

We have a few in the club and some that hit the track and cant get out of there own way while a couple guys are running very very strong.

That detail filled reply proves alot . If your formy was auto and stock or close to his 5spd GT should have left you. He's putting down around 30 more rwhp on average..Ive seen several stock 5spd GT run mid to lower 13's stock, throw a cai and a tune on the car and its day and night faster then stock form...Good runs .

My wife's 06 GT is faster than any stock LT1...even minor modded ones around here.

Her car is an easy 13.3@105-106 in good weather.

So......you have the fastest Camaro in the history of stock vehicles then? If he was clipping by at 130 and you were going 70 you gained 60mph in no time. Math fails you.

I do not doubt any of you can actually beat a newer GT but you 99/100 are beating the driver not the car. Car for car yours are inferior with a good driver. Us 2v guys are beating them too yet are cars by all figures would lose. But the street is not a controlled environment.

I was head to head in 2 races from a dig with a new GT at the time. I just had a new converter installed and didnt have midlengths yet. It was cold so i didnt get any traction, we were neck and neck for 2 runs

Good kills. With his manual, he should have pulled you on top. Ive had a couple auto 99-04GT's pull a couple car lengths out of the hole but by 60mph i was door to door and by 85mph they were multiple car lengths behind. Auto's are obviously easier to launch but manuals will make more power to the wheels. so in a 1/4 mile race, a manual will ET less but usually trap higher.

I havent raced any 05+GT's but the 8 or 9 that i have seen run at the track, were 14.5'-14.6's @98-99mph. There was an 06GT that had an air intercooled Procharger and was running ~12psi. He was running 12.3's-12.4's ~112mph.

Oh my God, That must be some serious track elevation for those times.
Check out my good friends web page... www.brightmare.net to see what times we are running around these parts.
THE NUMBERS: 474rwhp / 431rwtq (SAE corrected)
Best 1/4 mile ET: 11.27 @ 124 mph. These numbers are achieved with other mods you will see on the site, but the charger is only a 9 lb unit and he has stock intake, stock heads and stock cams!

I was at the track about a month ago and there were 3 stangs there, 2 sticks and 1 auto. The 2 sticks couldn't get out of the 14s but the auto ran consistant 13.50's. I got him once heads up but smoked the tires but I was gaining on him at the top end. He was a good driver because he was consistant 13.55 on almost every run. His mph the same as mine 100 mph.

Im not sure what his deal was. He could have lied about how much boost he was running or he could have been on street tires. He popped the hood so i could see what all he had and it looked good.

Here's the list of the 100mph club at our track for this year. I believe the only requirments is that the car has to have DOT approved street tires(drag radial and ET streets are ok) and an exhaust sytem that goes through the muffler. http://www.firebirdonline.com/100mph...007_100mph.htm

There are 6 05+GT's on there. One is the driver in an 06 with a trap ~110mph, and one with a 106mph trap with the others in the 101-102 range. All the ones i have seen could have been auto's with shi**y/new drivers, bad track prep and on a 100* dry day. anything can happen. Ive had my fair share of bad runs where someone could assume all LT1's are slow.

i have run across a few nice performing '06 GT Stangs.i am in Vegas and it takes quite a bit to get anything to really perform here compared to various states.i want to race this one specific Stang cause he says with these mods(cai, tune and x-pipe w/borla cat back)" Best ET: 13.972 @ 100.64 3000 ft, 110 degrees Dyno: 311rwhp/334rwtq (uncorrected) 317rwhp/340rwtq (Corrected)
not saying i will for sure beat him but i think i have him covered...
there have been a few 06s at the track
Black '06 5spd.12psi procharger,slicks,tune 12.60
Red '06 auto,kenne-bell,tune,slicks 13.00(honestly had tranny problems,it broke that night)
Grey '06 5 spd,tune,exhaust,Dr's,cai 13.97
those were definately the fastest i have seen at my track the rest were 14.3-15.4
my buddies '04 Mach 1 on, Dr's,4.10s,X-pipe w/mac power chambers and tune runs 13.6

he was talking in KPH, not mph, so he was doing about 45mph, and the stang was about 75mph, so he pushes in the clutch blurps the trottle, shift to 2nd, and mash it, you get to 70 really quick, I know my car does, and it's a tired lt1, so I believe it.

So that means you weren't gaining on him
