EVO vs. '88 Mustang GT

I gotta set this up for a sec. OK. Me and my wife were coming back from picking up our two kids, 9 & 11, after spending the night at a cousins house in Woodbridge VA. Were cutting through a neighborhood to get to 95S. We pass a blue Mustang GT bearing 30-day tags. I guess that upset him slightly so he passed us back. Did I mention were in a CHEVY Venture Warner Bros. minivan? Not the IROC (always happens to me). Anyway he gave us a glance like, see that, beat your van. I got it tinted out all around so you cant see us. Well we pull up to a light and a silver evo is already at the light. Just minding his own business. The Mustang, filled with a two 21 year olds, starts revvvvving its motor non-stop for 20 second at the EVO. I tell my wife, watch this. This kid obviously never picked up a Car & Driver or a Road and track. They are second in line so they cant just go on the green. They get beside each other and the Mustang goes first. The EVO follows and you can tell it is having to go easy not to rear end the Mustang. When the lane is clear to the right the EVO just dissappears and that Mustang was like HUH? Next time I saw the kid at the next light I could tell his buddy was giving him a ration of sh^t about it. Lesson learned. Read about your competitors. I have to admit. I was shocked how fast that EVO took off.

Re: EVO vs. '88 Mustang GT

evos are fast, but its because of the turbo, if they werent turboed they would just be another ricer car, then again any car can be fast just by slapping a good turbo on it with a decent amount of boost(provided the motor can handle it) Also i would try to race it also in the same position, losing doesnt bother me, i was attempting to chase down a viper with a 93 Z28 with full bolt on/4.10s/timed gears/more unknown mods but unfortunately traffic didnt let me get to it, just like if i ran into a 69 ZL1 i would be trying my hardest to get it to race me just so it will stomp all over me and i could drool all over it as i see the taillights dissappear =)

Evo's are very fast cars. I normally dont care for imports, but they have my respect.

Nice view to a kill...lol

Re: EVO vs. '88 Mustang GT

saying evos are fast because of the turbo is like saying z28s are fast because they have 8 cylinders. lol.

You have to do something to get power either displacement or (turbo/supercharger). They chose to use a turbo rather than displacement. So what? that does not make them inferior.

Re: EVO vs. '88 Mustang GT

^ Yea ... Actually, it does.

Its alot easier to make a 10 or 11 second car when displacement is on your side.

Sure you can do it with a Evo, but forget doing it on pump gas, and forget making something that lasts. They'll break every time you run it hard at the track.

Bottom line to all car issues is there is no replacement for displacement.

Sure a turbo/blower can level up the playing feild, but only for so long. They have their pro's and cons. They respond well to bolt ons. But you can only crank the boost so high before displacement becomes an issue. Imagine how fast your Camaro would be with a turbo on it ... even at modest boost levels. 8 psi on your car will be a hell of a lot faster than 8psi on a Evo ... And its only because of your displacement advantage. I mean dont get me wrong, Im not bashing them for using a turbo to do it, im just pointing out. Displacement is good.

Re: EVO vs. '88 Mustang GT

Hey Iroc i live in Quantico, and I talked to one of my friends with an evo earlier and i think i might know the guy that was in that evo. If it is that car is pushing over 420awhp. I know there are alot of silver evo's around woodbridge but he is always out cruising around lookin for someone to race. Did you happen to recall if the Evo had a large decal on the side of it that said PTUNING?

As for how fast Evo's are...I have personally witnessed 2 separate evos with barely anything done to them, pushing 320awhp and running 11.4 quarter.

It had no stickers or any mods at all. 100% stock looking from the outside. Here is a link to a test of 3 diff. evo types. http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...t_results.html I didn't know they have gotten so fast.

Re: EVO vs. '88 Mustang GT

There was a stock one recently here at the local 1/8th mile running consistant 8.60 - 8.65 et's (cant remember the mph right off)
Now get this.... It was on street tires!!!! He smoked several LS1s that were on street tires. He was ruling until a dude in an 02 TA put the slicks on and run an 8.45 on him.

Thats when they gained my respect.

Re: EVO vs. '88 Mustang GT

Ehh, if I had a AWD car I would rather run it in the 8th than the 1/4. He had much better odds. AWD, the thing was probably cutting 1.8's off the line on street tires ...

Low 13's or not, look at the trap speed. Its trapping what a bone stock LT1 car did 10 years ago. I still am not that impressed with them. I mean, out of the *** cars, their one of my favorites, but Im sorry, they dont impress me that much.
