Hi all, Just wondering.... I have a 95 z with hookercatback, cai, 373's,recent rebuilt motor (pistons cams lifters the whole works). buillt tranny with shift kit. never ran at the track or had on a dyno. the car isvery strong though. anyways my buddy has a newer model s2000 convertible. 6 speed. granted the car is fast for a 4 banger. but he seems to think it will spank my Z. Well we put 75 bucks on the race and its comming up on friday. any thoughts? by the way im only nervous because the kid knows what he's talking about. His brother has a 03 supercharged Z06 corvette . so he knows what fast is! all he has on the car is a CAI. what do you allthink? am i right , or should i steer clear??? thanks

You honestly shouldnt have a problem with it.. depending on your driving.. if you can get yours into the 13's you should be ok.. My Z pulls on them pretty good and ive only hit 13.8 at 103... and my car never ran right. I believe the s2000's are mids to low 14's.. so yeah.. itll prolly end up being the drivers race

 

my friend drove one for a while, he said they are pretty slow, he said they are very slow picking up. I think you should murder the 2000.

 

The Z will win unless your buddy is a real professional driver. Anyone can drive a Z fast but it takes a lot of control and driving skill to get a 4 cylinder off the line fast and in the powerband. If I were you I'd just try to figure out what you want to buy with that $75. LOL. Oh yea, when you destroy him and he wants to go double or nothing you know what do do. Now you gotta figure out how to spend $150. I'd go with a nice set of underdrive pulleys.

 

haha yeah thanks ! He's a good driver but so am i. I know how to launch my car. and we are racing from a stop to about 100 or he gives up i guess? Its ok i don't have a problem takin his money.

 

i raced one when i had similar mods...b&m ripper, slp catback, moroso CAI, crane 1.6 RR's and it wasnt even funny.....id raise the stakes, but thats just me! Good luck man and get a good launch!

 

stock for stock you guys would be a good race, but with your mods you should walk away.

 

i raced one a while back and beat him bad...that was when i didnt have gears either, just dont spin and ull be way more then set

 

You should search back a month or so ago in this forum. Someone started a s2000 thread and other members commented in detail about how they are very hard to launch. i remember something about dumping the clutch at 6k rpm to get a good launch or something . Theyre more road racing cars than straight line cars so you should take him.
