Everyone>> Who Will Win?!?!
Everyone>> Who Will Win?!?!
Hey there here is the match up......
My 1995 Camaro Z28 A4: 47,0000 Miles, Hooker-catback, Moroso CAI, de-screened MAF, TB bypass, LT4 KM, 160 Therostat. 17X9.5 front, 17X11 ZR1's with new toyo proxes.
VS.
My freind Andy's 97 SVT Cobra M5 (i think, not sure how many gears)50,000 miles: BBK offroad X pipe, flowmaster exhuast, K&N intake, Hurst shifter, 3:73 gears, new clutch ( he says performace type) cobra R rims with kuhmo's ( not new).
Who do you think will win? i was in his car when he took off at a light and i think i could take him. He isn't the greatest shifter in the world. lol should i shift mine or not when i race him? any advice? any comment will be GREAT!!!

From a stop will be your best bet. I think he might edge you out. Unless you have a really strong car. Try him from a stop. It will be your best bet. A Cobra with gears and a couple bolt ons is a pretty quick car. He will give you hell. And I wouldnt run him from a roll. More than likely he will pull like crazy. Give it what you got. you might suprise him.
In my opinion it could be a close race. I've raced a cobra before (not sure of mods) and with the few mods I have managed to take him (this is before the cutout, and a few other things I think). From what I've heard cobra's are hard to launch. Then the fact that he isn't that good a driver gives you an extra edge. As far as shifting manually (your car), don't worry about it. Just put it in drive (not OD) and let er rip, then depending on how far you go if you need OD shift it up. Oh yeah, and try not to spin too much; shouldn't be much of a problem with 17x11's.
All in all, I'll put my money on the Chevy,

with those mods your car should realistically run something like a 13.8@101 or so and the Cobra would be closer to 13.4@106 ish. so it CAN be a close race if you out launch him,but youre definately on the losing side, especially from a roll. I dont see why the Cobra would be hard at all to launch since they have a solid axle out back.
OK thanks a lot, yah i am anxious to see who is faster, we are good freinds..... but we are VERY competive. What do you think would be a good upgrade to go with next?

As everyone else has said, you're at a disadvantage. I've seen Cobras 95-98 with minor bolt-ons/gears go 13.2-13.4 range at the track @ around 105+. If he can't drive and you get him out of the gate you can prolly get him through a 1/4 run. See if you can get the pop from him, that would make things a little more even.
Yea, it's a "driver" (not plural) race. If HE can't drive then you'll have a chance, if HE can then you won't, regardless of how YOU drive.
If money allows, I would get the LTs AND 3.73s. Get both of those and you would definately get the nod in a heads up run...

if he can't drive, you stand a chance. otherwise, i think he will take you. practice your launches, DON'T shift your car, and race him from a dig.
oh, and ditch the neon. ppl might think you two are more than just "buddies".
