Cruising back from the bar, had a single beer at 1130 and it was around 2. I was driving up the main street to hit the freeway, 3 lanes wide. Several cars on the road, but two stick out, a black e46 m3, and a dark silver gray newer model carrera S. I didn't see the front so I don't know is it's the newest one out of the one previous. The only way I can tell the difference is the headlights. They aren't messing around, but as I come up on them I notice the M gets a little cocky and shoots off form a red light, even though the Porsche and I are behind several other cars.

I manuver through and get up close to him, and we come up on another red. The area was hot though as there were several places for police to be hiding out, and I've seen them there before. Light goes green and I ease out. He does too, then goes WOT and takes off. Finally, we end up at a good place to go, a short straight, along with a gentle left uphill to the final light before the freeway. Red light again, and it's me in the left lane, M in the middle, and the S in the right.

Check the rearview, look all around. All's clear. I approach the line to show the M I'm down to go, he does the same. Light goes green and I slip it quick and get him out of the hole. By the time I chirp second his front bumper is at my rear and I'm putting space, aided no doubt by the inside lane when we hit the turn. We shoot up hill and by the time we hit 80 I have half a car on him. We shut down, only for me to check the rearview and see the Porsche's HIDs cut over a lane (he went behind the M) and rocket past us and hook the quick right onto the freeway. I give it a little gas to keep the distance close, only to see several signs showing that there was roadwork going on.

I get behind the Porsche and we cruise by the construction workers and CHP vehicles at the posted speed for several miles. Finally it opens up and I pull next to him, drop it to third and kind of goose it a bit to entice him. I ease the throttle on and slowly put a little distance and then floor it for a second, then back off. At this point he's 3 cars behind me. I watch him to see if he's going to pull up. Instead I see his car kick as he downshifts and tries to do a flyby. I wait a beat, giving him several precious moments of WOT time that I should have been accelerating too. By the time I get on it again he's already got the momentum and keeps going right past me, and puts a couple of cars by the time I shut down at 130. Sucker was moving, but I wonder how I would have faired if we went at the same time.

Still, I feel pretty good running with cars that are double, and in the Porsche's case triple, what my car went for.
