There's this guy I know, one of those talky talky talky punks. He's got a 91? Civic hatch with a JDM B16 DOHC V-Tech swap. he has an LS tranny, limited slip. lowered, intake full exhaust, blah, blah, blah. I have a 96 Z28. LT1, 6-speed, LTs, full exhaust, Hurst shifter, thermostat, 58mm TB, intake, Madz28, and a few lbs taken off. He's always talking smack about "V-8 junk" "domestic crap" "I'll smoke you hands down" this and that. Now both of our cars are in storage for winter, and he wants to say that his brother will bet $100 against me. Has anyone ever encountered a slightly modded B-16? How fast? If we were to race, I'm sure he'd use his slicks, and I'd definatly check for spray and what not. Is it worth it. Remember I can't stand this punk, and it would be worth it to me just to say I beat him no money involved, but he won't race unless it's for cash. would should i do or say?

i beat a slightly modded one while stock. similar mods to the ones you listed. he later got a turbo of some sort on it and beat me. got my mods and smacked him around again.
as far as racing for money.....its like playing cards when they bet big money. might be a bluff to scare you off. list your mods so others will chime in and throw in their $.02

mods:
Pacesetter LTs and 3" y-pipe, no cats, SLP cat back, Holley 58mm TB, Tbyrne MAF ends, Trick flow inlet elbow, SLP CAI, OVC 9mm plug wires, NGK tr55s, MSD cap and rotor, Hypertech coil, Hypertech 160* thermostat, SLP fan switch, Hurst shifter, MadZ28 tune, 275s on my Vette rims, but would prolly run with salad shooters and radials

A friend of mine had a 91 integra with the same swap with intake, full exhaust, and an electronic controller for something. He wanted to run my 94 Z which had CAI, cat back, 3.73's, and a hypertech. I know the civic is lighter than the integra, but I smoked his *** BAD. Needless to say, he was very discouraged after that. I drove the car and that motor got no low end what so ever.

EF Civics(88'-91') weigh in at about 2000 or less pounds, his engine makes 165hp at the flywheel stock. From my experience, these particular swaps with intake, header, exhaust get you between 13.80-14.10 type of performance. It's probably the fastest thing he's driven, so he's got a big head now, I've seen it happen a thousand times. Get some E.T.streets and smoke his ***.
Oh it's the fastest, and the first car he's ever owned. he's only some punk kid in his first car. He probably hasn't even been in anything faster (besides his pops 396 SS Chevelle) (that I'm sure he's never gotten to drive) i don't think it should be a problem then, but i will be carerfull.

My money would be on you smoking his a**. My buddy had a '92 with a B16B?swap (160hp + exhaust, intake) and he barely broke 15's. Coulda been a bad engine, bad driver, temp, elevation or all of them but a $2800 motor swap for a car that runs 15.9's doesnt seem logical to me. It was a Del Sol motor if that helps cuz I know they have like 61 different types of motors, all of which are dogs unless heavily modified. My first time at the strip I was against him and had a horrible, horrible 2.89 60' and still took him 98mph to his 92mph trap. Dont remember ET's but it was around a 15.4 to a 16.3 1/4. With your six speed if you mess up a lil on the dig you can pull him pretty hard.

Found the timeslip but couldnt scan it cuz the ink is to light.

As I look at it know im not proud of it but it shows what experience can do. It took me 15 races to get the best in my sig with no extra mods. My problem was obviously the 60' and even if I did nail it sometimes i missed third which killed the last stretch. So it doesnt matter if you run 13's or 15's you could lose the race to the slower car if you f up.

My friend in highschool had a '90 Integra with a B16 swap. I realize an Integra is heavier than a Civic hatchback, but still, same motor.
Now his brother has a '96 T/A, auto w/2.73's. I was in the T/A and we raced the Integra ..... KICKED HIS A$$ like he was standing still!!!
Another case: I raced an identical Integra to my friend's '90, except this one had a turbo. I was in my '02 Z28 (only 1 month old, still bone stock) and we were on the highway. Anything from a ~70+ mph roll, and I could stay slightly ahead of the guy. I'll admit, it surprised me how close he could stay with me, BUT ..... only to ~120 or so ..... THEN I could just walk away with ease!!
(good 'ol LS1
).
IMO, your '96 Z28 should have no problem with a lightly modded B16.

The only little hondas to worry about are ones with turbos or big amounts of spray and big amounts of spray don't get along very good with those little engines.
Turbos can make any car stupid fast..12s ,11s ,10s.. not immpossible for turbo four cylinders nowadays to put out over 500at the wheels and they are usually very light which helps.Traction is usually nonexistent in most fwd with any good power and if they are not on race tires off the line they will not run very good at all.
A year or so ago raced a honda not sure what it was now civic, whatever and it had turbo for sure and spray.
Guy had just bought it off another guy and this was at the track not street BS. His hood was open and he did have a turbo for sure and spray.
I was beside him in staging lanes with wifes 96z28 vert.At the time did not have my 2800 vig,BBK58 tb or my suspension stuff.Did have some nittos but they were brand new and didn't even lower them from stock pressure or bother heating them up like supposed to. The track was usual unprepped track.
I overheard them saying they figured they would "waste" the vert I think they might have thought it was a v6 or something. At the time had the factory black z28 emblems which are visible against the dark purple but hey who knows maybe they thought the car just had emblems.
Anyway they were thinking they would be running easy 11s. I heard this as they were talking in the staging lanes and I was beside their car.
Anyway I have the timeslip around here somewhere but we raced.I got a 2.18 60ft not great have got 1.9 since but that was with stall and suspension and airing down the nittos. Anyway I ran a 14.3 at 96mph.Raceweight was like 3800 something and track is at 1700 ft above sea level and bad density air that day.
Turbo.nitroused honda blew his street tires totally off and got like a 2.89 60ft and ran a 16.0 and 85mph or something he must have just backed right out of it to get that low an mph not sure what happened there.
They came around again and by coincidence got lined up beside me a second time but this time they asked track official not to race "that fast"
z28! I ran another couple very slow hondas that day a del sol and some other civic and they were no faster running 16 and 17s. Not turboed not nitroused as far as I know. I did see a de sol this year running pretty good but heard it had lots and lots done and think it was 14s old memory is not great.
So this you should waste this civic. We have one in our town but its got nitrous and its decent fast.Gave buddy with c5 auto vert pretty near stock a good run on highway for a bit.Vette still beat it though.
That turbo ,nitroused honda I raced turned bad times all day but he was on little street tires. He likely could have been very fast on some real drag tires. And fastest street car at drags last year was a 91 eagle talon running 11.5 at 126mph and he turned down his boost to stay track legal at 11.5.He was fwd but on drag tires.
Any car can be made fast but hondas pretty much need turbos or superchargers to be fast.Spray helps too.
Curious to see what the newest civics will be getting at the track this year. They do keep upping the power.

yeah, he has "slicks" as he calls them (prolly Nittos or something) so he may hook up okay, but as long as I do too, I don't think I'll have a problem.

Quietly put a 100 shot on your car.... don't tell him about it, and just drive up to the race with it armed. IF during the race he begins to pull you, hit the juice. If he asks how you suddenly took off and left him, tell him you decided to go full throttle
I don't know much about those cars, but an old friend of mine had a mid 90's civic with an engine swap (i'm assuming a B16 or whatever) and he was running mid 12s. He had a good bit of time and money invested in that car to get it there.
I don't think you'd have a problem if he just dropped the engine in it, but if he's done some "smart" mods he could give you a run. With your mods you should be in the low 13s with a good 60'

Probablly the B18C motor which was originally in the Integra GTR or whatever. Made those tegs run high 14's stock and thats what alot of fast civics use but i was told they dont like turbos. A 91 civic here hit 11.6' N/AOriginally Posted by Fast Caddie

Swapped civics are a mixed bag.. some result in 15 cars, while others are in the 13's with I/H/E. It depends on what motor they put in, condition its in, and in my experience, the degree to which they are willing to rape it out for weight reduction. You can make those cars ridiculously light. There are some fast ones out there and I respect those, but for every fast one, there are 9 guys who think they are automatically king sh.it just b/c it has a swap.
