You know, this sheet is getting stupid.

Yeah, if you race a bike @ 60 mph, with him being in 6th gear, while he is sitting straight up(somehow)...yeap, your maybe 12 second car can take him out.

Hell, might as make it worse...he has a 300 lb rider on the bike also...flat tire also...blown up motor...out of gas?

Tell you what, my Lightning, which has worse aerodynamics than any bike would beat this guys combo...but let's add 20-25 mph on my trap speed and somehow it is still close?

no kidding he isn't going to have a problem at 60mph but depending on how high they go he will start having problems. Up around 120 or more the bike will start to slow down, NOT 180.

Let's look at the numbers then...

Let's say car runs 12.70@108 mph.

Bike runs 10.8@130 mph.

From a 60 mph roll....

It will take the car about 7 seconds to hit 100 mph.

The bike will take about 3.5 seconds to hit 100 mph.

Then let's say the bike stays in it until the car is at 100 mph. The bike will be around 130 mph and be about 220 feet ahead of the car...in 7 seconds.

Then let's say the bike stays in it until the car is at 130 mph. The bike will be around 170 mph and be about 550 feet ahead of the car...in 13 seconds.

Looks pretty close to me

The only reason that i thought i might have a chance from a roll is because my car is already moving...duh, but that means that i lose most of my disatvantage, which is all my weight is already moving. Comparing a 10 sec bike to a 12 sec car doesn't work because the only reason that i dont run quicker is because i weight more. The bike weighs so little that it doesnt have a big disatvantage from a dig.

I guess ill just have to race him once he gets insurance and see what happens.

You forget that you have the nefarious A4 tranny. Autos SUCK for a race from a roll. If you had a stick, I'd say you could ward him off for a few seconds, but with the auto, no chance.

well as a former sport bike rider i can tell you he may stand a chance if:
1. the rider of the bike doesn't keep it above 8k...

2. the weight of the rider (beat my fare share of 1L gixxers, 900rr's, etc on my 750 interceptor going against 300lb+ drivers... i also got smacked by toothpick 100lb riders on 600fzr's, 600cbr's...)

3. a bad or novice rider may wheeeeeeeeeeeeeelie, or burnout from a dig, they may also get cought out of the groove in the street, lots of things can and do happen...

4. sprocket changes also make a world of difference, from "wheeeeelie machines" to, "still in 3rd gear @ "list outragous speed here""...

odds are you'll lose and lose badly but then again...

Re: Do I have a chance against a bike?

you guys got it all wrong....

set the rules before you begin the race. say for instance: we both go full throttle from 50mph on the third horn honk.

get out on an open road (with, hopefully, no cops). get up to 50 mph. honk once....honk twice...swerve into his lane causing him to go completely off the road into the grass and hit the horn a third time....smash it . at this point and time you might want to drive quickly to your house and lock yourself inside....hmmm, might want to park the car in the garage for a few weeks also .

Wow, yeah ... old thread! (and BTW, nice avatar!! ... your "passenger" looks like ... uh ... fun? ).

Well, this summer I had my first 1-on-1 (actually 6, to be exact) with some bikes . Let's just say ................... don't bother unless you've got A LOT of power!!!!

I raced a couple of them from ~80 mph roll-ons (pretty good speed for me to drop to 3rd gear) and they walked me no problem!!) Heck, even going from ~100 mph once, one of them took off like I wasn't even TRYING to race!! (must not have been quite "stock", because he was faster than all the other guys). Even still, I felt not too bad, considering they're BIKES!!! I could at least give them something to work for up to ~140 mph!
