Re: Cobalt SS

ET-wise a Cobalt and SRT-4 are close. BUT, on the freeway, it's not a contest. Also, SRT-4s are underrated. They make their rated power at the wheels, not the crank. Go look up 0-100 times for the Cobalt and the SRT-4 to see the diff.

Also, you ever see a stock Cobalt run 103mph traps? That's borderline stock A4 2.73 ls1 speed:

Re: Cobalt SS

1/2 second is not 5+ car lengths at those speeds...more like 3 to 3-1/2.

Re: Cobalt SS

I dont think we disagree at all. Like I said.. SRT4's are noticeably quicker.

So enough with the "SRT-4 is faster " crap and lets get back to the original topic, shall we?

Nice kill, I didnt think a Buick could be real quick... do you have any time slips?

Re: Cobalt SS

Just thought I'd throw in here.

They don't make SRT-4s anymore... but then... they don't make my car either. LOL

Good kill

Hey don't you have a subway sandwich to go eat?

J/K

Getting off topic is not only a tradition around here but it's darn good fun too

If you look at srtforums.com they have the fastest stock SRT-4 going 13.6 @ 102. Of course that happens about as often as a stock LS1 going 12.8 @ 107. Well driven SRT-4's are low 14's and the Colbolt SS are mid to upper 14's from what I have heard. All in all the SRT-4 is a little faster.

But under the right conditions you could see a 13.7 SRT-4 run a 14.7 Colbolt SS. One second difference is a decent butt kicking IMO. But on the other hand you could see a 14.4 SRT-4 face a 14.5 Colbolt SS where the winner was determined by the R/T.

But it still just a neon so the Colbolt will get the default win by not looking quite as gay as the SRT-4

I'm just kidding. A wins a win.

Re: Cobalt SS

I think Cobalt SS is better than SRT-4. From the factory they come with forged internals and have some serious mod potential. You can make a lot more HP with mods before you have to replace the engine internals and spend big $$.

You need to read alittle more. The LSJ internals are good up to about 350 horsepower. You'll never even get to 350 horsepower with that stock maxed eaton anyway.

Only 350hp? Kinda doubt that, considering GMPP is coming out with those blower upgrades (or is it a turbo?) in stages 1, 2, and 3. The 3rd is supposed to be good for 300whp and still maintain factory warrenty. So I'd doubt they can only handle 350hp IMO.

*EDIT*
I found it at www.cobaltss.com somewhere.
It talks about the stage 1 and 2 on the main page.

Shred, the SRT-4 engine is built like a tank. It can handle PLENTY of hp:

http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/pr...0scc_projneon/

What we found is a ridiculously strong-looking engine that should survive many a quarter mile...Where typical engine development teams would spend time whittling away pennies finding the least expensive design that could meet durability targets, the turbo 2.4 team just threw in stronger parts and more expensive materials, cost be damned.
The SRT-4 drag teams are rumored to be making between 800 and 1200 hp on the stock crank (and stock block and bedplate), so we figure it's strong enough.
And mod potential, man the SRT-4 takes to mods like a Supra. The RIGHT mods that is.

This chick went 110mph with bolt-ons! (Hers is an 03. The 04's and 05's have bigger injectors. Now she has a big turbo):

http://www.srtgurl.com/my_SRT-4.htm

(Scroll down towards the bottom of the page, they show the stock dyno #'s and what the mods did for the car before they went big turbo - keep in mind this is a ~2900 lb car too).

No time slips yet. I'm planning on going to the track in the early spring when the track opens back up. I want to buy a pulley & some better tires also. I have traction problems off the line.

In these colder months in the Northeast Cobalt SS and Ion Redlines are running high 13's at the strip with only intake on them. They are a faster ca than many think. Now with the Stage upgrades coming out for them the SRT-4 has something to be afraid of. (In that class.)
