sounds like you were in your dead spot on the auto.
and as jake said...100+ is very possible in 3rd gear...and quite honestly...if you had raced higher it would have been uglier.
4th gear is a fun gear for an LS1
overdrive in an auto compared to 1:1 in the m6....i don't think "it would have been all over"...unless it was the other guy winning

really cause i beat gto's, chargers, I can't tell the differeance between the c6 and the c5, they look the same to me(i think lights). I have never lost to a stick car from a dead stop in my LT1(93). He took me from a roll, acutally we both turned left and my attempt to pass him failed. Does your exhaust give you guys a definitve advantage, also ls6 intake right? never mind i'll search

sold my lt1 or lost it R.I.P.. I set my rev limiter to 6500. I put my own rear end on It came out a 6 speed. I think i just hit my dead spot in 3rd gear. FYI, I just picked up a fiberglass SS hood, big differance. I beat a new gto yesterday on the freeway, he was right behind me, but man those sound so bad a$$ compared to my car even though i have a loudmouth. They sound like the have more low end torque and grunt

this board has taught me a lot, hell if it weren't this forum I might be driving a honda or something. I am really dumb when it comes to heads and valvetrains numbers and stuff. I just want a really fast car, not a quick or sort of fast car

Assuming everything in your car is stock:
Rev limiter: 6200 rpm
3rd gear ratio: 1.30:1
Rear end ratio: 3.42:1
Tire size: 275/40ZR17
A 275/40ZR17 tire is 25.661" tall. Multiply by pi to get circumference -- 80.618".
6200 / 1.30 = 4769.231 rpm at the driveshaft
4769 / 3.42 = 1394.512 rpm at the axles
1394.512 * 80.618 = 112422 inches/minute
112422 inches per minute is 106.461 miles per hour. If you shift at 6000, you'll be doing 103 mph.
Either you're shifting into 4th at 5000 rpm, or a previous owner installed 4.10 gears and didn't pass that information on.

You can only do 85 in third? I cross the traps at 100+ in third, maybe I've got different gearing, M6 here also.

I tend not to shift as high as some, i shift between 5,000 and 5,500 or so, unless i'm racing at the strip, but there i never see the end of 3rd, i barely see the end of 2nd
