I think the mustang would edge out if he knew how to drive.

Deffinently the LT1. If you know how to drive, you should take him. Hopefully he will have an auto, then it's all cake

If an Average Joe can get mid 13s from one of the new GTs, you better be able to drive the LT1 to beat him. I still think you'll get beat...

what do your tires look like...if you can launch good, you own that ****...if u spin, get some sticky tires and maybe headers...deaders are the best bang for your buck bar none...they really wake up that LT1!!

the manuals and autos run almost the same ET though the auto gives up a little mph (much like f-bodies).

if it's an auto, run him from a roll for your best chance. yea, it's ricer racing, but it's probably gonna be one hell of a battle from a stop.

good luck.

Agreed, from a roll you have a better chance of hooking up and when it hooks, its all power to roll you down the road, no excuses. Although, I too, think you'll still get edged out... let us know

Re: Can I beat a Stock 05 Mustang GT

We've put a set of twins on an 05 and I was amazed at how lame the stock tires are. They are only 235's! If you've got some better rubber you might be able to out launch him. Up here at 4,500 ' ASL we got the Mustang to run 14.0's which is about the same as a 2000+ Fbody.

That new 4.6 is a great motor, dual over head cams, variable valve timing, variable length intake runners, etc... great power for 4.6 Liters

I know it has 3 valves per cylinder. I think it is SOHC. Anybody know?

It is a SOHC...I drove an auto GT just last week. I could not get it to brake the tires loose from a dead stop. From a roll it was quick but took at least twice the time to shift down than my 4L6OE. It shifted at 6K and never dropped under 5K on the shifts. It didn't feel like I was driving a V8.

Just so everyone is informed, this is what a PROFESSIONAL RACE CAR DRIVER can do on a NOT stock '05 GT (Weight reduction - removed back seat, A/C, spare tire and jack):

13.20 @104 - here's the link: http://www.corral.net/forums/showthr...=582833&page=1

Here's what the average driver does on a BONE STOCK MANUAL 2005 GT:

13.7-14.0 @99 - here's the link for proof from the Ford guys own mouths: http://www.corral.net/forums/showthread.php?t=565909
