Basically, just like any other car out there, they can run 15s or they can run 11s - it just depends on the example you run into at the time.

I've never lost to one yet, stock to lightly modded. They have a great launch if the guy can drive. They don't have enough power to keep them ahead of me much less and LS1 once all cars are rolling. Heavily modded ones with an aftermarket turbo, intercooler, etc. are likely to be very fast.

WRx's arent bad, go on there site they beat up on mustang GT's all day long ...generally the big car mags ran them to 14.2-14.4 area @ 95-96 ish...Ive seen a number of em easily hit 13's @ raceway park, not sure what they had or if they had anything at all but they look and sounded stock.

What about a WRX Sti? How do we do against those, and what do they typically run at the track?

Re: Camaro vs. WRX

My best friend has a WRX with full exhuast, intake, and a MBC. He and i run all the time even from a stop he can't hang with me one he hits 3rd. Those cars really have no top end at all. I also ran him one time when i was driving my friends EVO (catback, MBC) and the EVO was beating up on him real bad from a 3rd gear roll. Even with the full vs Cat back exhuast the EVO out spooled the WRX. WOW i kinda got off topic there but the only way the WRX is gonna be a good run for a camaro (my case a firebird) is if it is at least some what modded and it is from a stop. Or an STi of course.

I ran one on the highway from about 60-120. He had atleast exhaust and I slowly walked out to a couple car lead.

Re: Camaro vs. WRX

I'll need some more mods before I run one then.. Looks like anyones race, wanna make sure I win.. Friend wants me to run his girlfriends new STi. After Longtubes, tires and a tune, I think I should be in good shape.

Ofcourse you havent...Ive sure you've ran some really fast ones beating em left n right running 14.0@100 seeing that they generally run the same times stock w/ real world drivers...I bet its that synthetic oil mod!

Off the line if he or she can drive it'll be close(its hard to hawk those things down w/ limited mods because of the huge jump they get off the line), from a roll you should pull him pretty good as you sit.

Re: Camaro vs. WRX

Only place I will race is at a track, so it would be from a dig. I know the AWD is gonna make beating it out of the hole difficult.

Thanks for the input and the time estimates though, they at least give me a general idea of where things are at...

Those traps are higher than I've seen. More like 101-103 for a STi. Your e.t's seem pretty close, with more being closer to the 13.4 range.

Stock WRX's don't feel very fast. My buddy has one. It has a decent amount done to it(Cobb Stage 2 tuning, uppipe, turboback exhaust, some intercooler hose and intake elbow) and it feels like it now might pull like my LT1 did stock. I would bet he's trapping around 98-99 mph now. The thing with AWD cars is that they can either be mediocre if the driver doesn't want to rag on the clutch, or quick with a great launch. A great launch means beating on the clutch though. WRX's can go mid to low 14's @ 96 mph stock.

WRX's and STi's are nice cars, but they are for a different kind of driver than your typical F-body owner.

Dan

Re: Camaro vs. WRX

Keep in mind, even a crappy driver can make those things slow. There was an STi at the track last fall, and he would spin off the line, then bog, and ended up never running better than 14.3@99mph.

Re: Camaro vs. WRX

Just be very conservative off the line. If the WRX owner knows how to drive and has enough huevos, he'll be so far in front after the first 60' that you might just panic and blow the rear tires out. I haven't run one, but I've seen them beat much quicker cars for that very reason. If you don't have them already, get some DRs and practice the launch.
