C5 Vette vs 1994 Z/28

I was driving home on the highway and saw very low lights coming up in my mirror. "Man alive he's going fast" I thought as I read 85mph from the speedometer. It came around to pass and what would you know its a black C5 Vette. Well to this day every C5 Vette I've encountered didnt want to play. But something struck me different about this one. So I let him pass but met his speed. He began slowing down 80-75-70, "alright," I thought, "back into grandpa mode" So I began to pass him in the middle lane and he hits the brakes and swings over behind me and into the far fast lane. He comes up to my window, and I lower it to hear if he has exhaust, nope, but he does have limo tint and Chrome 5 spokes. I hear/see him gear down, so I follow suit and downshift into 3rd. "Could this be my chance?" I wondered. We slowed down to about 60-65 and I was just waiting for him to jump. I was watching closely for him to jump since I knew if I didnt launch right when he did I'd for sure be toast. Suddenly his headlights jump and front end lifts. I hit it hoping that my technologically inferior LT1 would somehow previal. Within a few seconds I looked over in disbelief that I was about a fender ahead of him, his front bumper at my window! "Holy **** I'm doing it," I thought with a rush of adrenaline, "I'm pulling a LS1 Vette" Suddenly he bows out slamming on the brakes and swinging 3 lanes back over into the slow lane. I am not sure what speed we got to, but I was holding my humble lead until he gave up. I am sure if he stayed in it longer he would have started pulling and putting me away, but fortunately he gave up before that could happen. I am pretty sure it was bone stock, I didnt notice any different exhaust or anything. I could not tell if it was A4 or M6, but I am guessing it was an A4. I figure a M6 might have put me away easily.

Ironicly, further down the road a state trooper had pulled over two cars, Orange/Red LS1 SS Camaro with a Berger Panel and Blue GTO. I hope they didnt get caught for what I think they did

LT1 = 2
LS1 = 0

How did you count the spokes on his rims when the car was going 70mph?

Not BS on the kill... just the rims.

Thanks guys.

You can tell part because of there being little metal spining, and the general shape. It wasnt a matter or counting but of eliminating possible C5 Vette rims. Not Mags, Not flat 5 spokes, not Z06's, then its 5 spokes.

Nope, it was basically stock as far as I know, except for the window tint, I dont think GM put limo tint on their Vettes.

You could have easily been able to tell when he geared down...maybe your exhaust was drowning him out a bit...Yea w/ a 6spd and the right driver it would have been over pretty quick. None the less good kill.

Yea, to be honest I didnt hear an exhuast, I mostly just heard his tires slow down combined with some front end movement. My car isnt exactly mild sounding anymore.

I know, it wouldnt be the first time I've heard it.

I think you've got alot of modding to do. E-WP, 1.6 rockers, ASP Pulley, etc. I have seen stock C5's run mid 13's, but mostly they run better than that with nice MPH's. I think a forsure way is a power adder or nice cam. Either of I am hoping to add to the arsenal soon. Fortunately I have nearly all the bolt on's.

Since the newer cobras,mach 1's, and the ls2's have came out...Ls1 is far from the " built by the hand of god" engine it use to be...In the early/mid 90's people said the same about the LT1 hehe.
