Buddies LS1 wins from a roll, but not from a stop.

Whats up guys? Just thought I would share a little racing story with you from last night. I joined an all f-body club here in my town, bunch of really good guys and some nice cars. One guy has a 02 WS6 with a cam and turbo . I raced one of the guys last night in his LS1. He has a 2000(I think) Trans Am with long -tubes and full bolt ons and its a 6-speed. Raced from a roll a few times and basically every time I would pull for a split second and then he would come back hard and pass me up. So I told him lets go from a stop this time. So we count down and both take off. Both of us got very bad traction from the start. I had to get off the gas completely and then get back on it, then had to wait for my tranny to downshift back down into 1st. I figured after that happend that I was done with, but I looked in my mirror and he was still behind me. Took it up to about 100mph and shut down with about a 1 car length win. We're gonna race again when we both get new tires. My nitto's are completely bald and aint hookin for **** anymore. Take it easy guys. Forgot to mention. No nitrous was used on this run.

Good story. Yes tires should make a huge difference. I would invest in some good street/drag radials :]... But for a 357 LT1, with a cam, headers, intake, 2400 stall, exhaust, tuning, Nitto Drag Radials, and a 100 shot you should be running quicker then 13.01s. Thats a mid 12 second car with that nitrous. Possibly your gears? What gears do you have?

My 13.01 was NOT spraying. My 2400 stall is miss-leading. Its just a re-stalled stock 12" converter. Doesnt give anywhere NEAR the gain that a good 10" would give. I have 3.73 gears. 13.01 was also before I put on my lower control arms. I have far less wheel hop now.

Raced the LS1 again today from a stop light. Both took off at the same time. He spun, I won. Took her up to about 100mph and had a good 3 car length lead. I let off the gas when my wife started yelling "slow down, slow down!!!" Had a good time racin the guy. I say his dyno sheets, had it dyno tuned and puts out 356rwhp. He rapes me from a roll but I get him everytime from a stop.
