It's not a car you'd take to an autocross but it's a great touring car that can still have some fun when you want it to. It weighs 4500 lbs but those 15.6 inch brakes w/ 8 piston calipers (and drilled/slotted rotors) haul it down quickly.

The biggest weakness? There's not enough rim in the back (9.5 inches) to go with a really wide tire. It really needs more than the 275's they come with -- it looks like we may get the stockers widened to fit 305's later on.

Oh, and 99% of the people you run into have no idea what it is. A part-throttle demonstration is usually enough to get the pretenders to back off.

Those are some pretty sweet times, I could only imagine having a forced induction V12 under the hood of my 97, hahaha
I know you wouldn't want to ruin a nice benz, but are there any possibilities for weight reduction without causing any permanent, value-depreciating, damage?
I good set of 315's and some weight reduction could throw that car into the 9's based on those numbers

being a young college student and working 2 jobs to put myself through (graduate in december of this year, thank god) its tough for me to keep up with all the new high hp cars that are coming out and all the guys that have their cars modded all to hell, but with my current setup which will debut in late march (weather permitting) I should be able to tango with 99% of the cars on the road IN MY AREA (northwest PA)
Love my LT1, can't wait to graduate so I can really start building this thing up... I don't see why I couldn't push close to 1000 crank hp out of a solid Blown 383...that'd be more than enough power keep the LT1 'representin'

There's not much you can change - the damn thing is built like a tank. The new SL65 AMG Black Edition is a 2-seater with many carbon fiber body panels (and a $300k price tag) and is only 300 lbs lighter.

Marko (of Supra fame) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUnE500utg8

Drag radials and a stock exterior appearance. You know that leaves most people wondering WTF just happened.

Having owned both cars in question I can tell you that my experiences are exactly opposite. My 430 had problems with a/c, heat, rotors, tranny, radio, electrical system, and engine (cold starts were a bear). In 2.5 years the car always had a problem. I've had my M3 for about a year and drive the snot out of it. So far, it's performed flawlessly. Also, the BMW still feels showroom tight w/65k miles whereas the mb felt pretty loose @ 80k. Fit and finish was even worse as buttons fell off the mb, the finish flaked off some of the plastic and fake wood, the radio ***** broke, the cup holders broke, the hood didn't close properly, the side view mirror switch was broke, and one of the door seals leaked.

I think a lot of you guys don't like BMW's because their owners are usually such douche bags. That's the way I always felt. I bought my M3 inspite of the fact it was a BMW, not because of it. However, I can honestly say that after 4 corvettes, 2 porsches, 2 supra twin turbos, a GTO and a 300zx TT, this is my all time favorite car...and I've barely started the mods.

2008+ M3s are running 12.5-12.7 @ 113-115

Sounds to me like you probably should have taken him on the launch and lost to him if you guys went up to 115-120+... then again with street racing there's no telling.

I would agree with the statement "street racing equals anybody's race". My ET is old in my sig, car should be a 12.40/50 car with another mph or two. So, my best guess is my car would be a 12.40 @ 111 (It's still a full bolt-on stock heads & stock cam LT1 car) . I don't think a 2008 M3 will go 114/15, but I would agree with the 12.50/60's @ 111 to 113 mph. I think the race was close enough to warrant either car being capable of said numbers. I still had a blast racing his car regardless what the outcome would have been that night
