Another Night at the races

This time I went up against the OLD school.

'67 Mustang Coupe with a built 302 and 2800 Stall. Long tubes, intake, cam.. etc etc. Very nice sounding side exit exhaust.

'68 Firebird. 350 with 4.00" Crank. 5 speed manual, but 2.73 gears. Cam, Intake, Full length headers dumped before the axle, Very clean.

This was the most badass race that I've ever been in. We all know each other from around town and have been wanting to run each other. We all LOVE cars and have mad respect for the old school and the newschool. They love my car as much as I love theirs. So anyway, onto the race.

Freeway Race... 3 lanes, Zero cars. I'm in the middle, the Firebird on my left and the 'Stang on the Right. The Firebird downshifts, sounds MEAN AS HELL. We're going from about a 35 mph roll because none of us can get any traction at all. I'm just waiting for someone to make the first move.

The 'Stang pulls up, gets even... The Firebird does the same. I hear the 'Stang ROAR like a bitch and shortly after the Firebird nails it. I'm the last to go because I'm waiting for my car to shift from 3rd to 1st. It finally does, bites and takes off. At this point the Firebird is about a car ahead and the 'Stang about 2 cars ahead.

Shift from 1st to 2nd. Instantly catch up and start realing them in. After about midway through 2nd (at about 60mph) We're even and I'm pulling HARD. The Firebird shifts and stops my pull, the 'Stang starts to lose ground.

Then the top of 2nd comes, I pull VERY hard on both cars, put about a 1-2 car lead on them both, then shift into 3rd and put it away, all the way up to around 115 when I shut down. At this point I had about 5 cars on the Firebird and 6-7 on the 'Stang.

We all pull into a Circle K and bull**** for a while. They knew 4th Gens were quick, but they didn't think they were this quick. They now want me to race the "Head Honcho" guy in town that they know. Aparently a very, very built '67 El Camino. It apparently has never been beat, but only runs low 14's, high 13's? We're gonna duke it out again next saturday, guess we'll find out how built that El Camino really is. (Btw, yes there are LS1's and Corvette's and what not, but these guys are hardcore into the old school and don't know much about them, so don't take the "never been beat" thing too seriously.)

Was one helluva night.

Cool story. Sounds like it was lots of fun. I love oldschool muscle cars, nothing is more badass than a badass muscle car going full throttle. Music to my ears.

a "built" car that runs high 13's low 14's. Who's it built by?, Jerry's Kids

Most old school cars sound bad azz but are slow, because they have a huge cam and $hitty flowing heads, and the wrong intake manifold. Everybody loves a high rise manifold, only problem is it doesnt do crap for torque except rob it.

I have a 67 elky that sounds like it runs 10's but the reality is that it is a slug and probobly couldnt get in the 14's.

I never said they were super fast. It was more for fun than anything else.
