Another LT1 vs. LS1 story
Re: Another LT1 vs. LS1 story
When I owned my LT1, I used to HATE LS1 guys. Thought they were cocky, braggin about having a motor barely better then an LT1, etc. I thought I was gonna be LT1 4 life.
Then I got a better job, sold my falling apart 94 Z, and bought and 01 WS6.
wow...
Bone stock I was neck and neck with my friends LT1 with 224/230XE, full exhaust, programming, gears, etc.
I'd like to take this opportunity to pledge my allegiance to the LS1 crowd and renounce any ties to the LT1.

Re: Another LT1 vs. LS1 story
While I do love my LT1, I had to do a lot to get it where it is...It won't take nearly as much work to get my wifes 2000 SS to blow my doors off...Imho, the LS1 starts out with a better platform for building hp..gotta love technology...Its gonna stink to get my **** handed to me in a stroker by a H&C LS1....oh well...

He never shut up and told everyone I jumped him and his car was "slow to get up and go" since it had a gear but a stock stall converter. He'd been ragging me all winter, so we went agian at the track. I now have an eagle forged rotating assembly, 355 LE1 heads, TH350 trans w/ a 3000 stall. He still has a stock LS1 but maintains that a stock LS car can take a 383 stroker lt1 because they are an inferior built engine. He lost by about 6 car lengths, and was still loosing ground when we crossed the line.
your set-up everything u listed + cam(hotcam)and 3.73's out that guys LT1 CAMARO...
secondly u beat him by 1/8 of a car not mile...and if your car is makin anywhere near 400RWHP post some dyno sheets PLEASE

I dont think a dyno sheet would prove anything but if you can read then heres some research for you: http://www.eportworks.com/LT1LE1.htm

I'm confused on why you posted that link. You didn't have that heads/cam package at the time of the race. Plus 370-390 rwhp isn't anything major to brag about IMO. I don't consider anything fast until it hits 500+ whp or mid 10's or better for ET. Some people will even say you need 1000+ and sub 9 second ET's before you are a serious racer. Of course that's a little extreme IMO but alot of the big dogs think that way.
IMO it's too easy to run 11's. A few bolt-ons and N20 can get many of us there with relative ease. Mid tens and quicker however is really the shiznet IMO because it shows a real dedication to the sport. It also shows a real lack of funds management according to my wife but that's another topic altogether
Re: Another LT1 vs. LS1 story
Imho 11s aren't easy (at least with LT1s)...Having the power to make 11s is not too hard, but actually having the time slip takes a little work. Usually those who think its easy haven't been there, yet...
Not trying to start crap, but I've noticed that the internet is full of fast cars, but the tracks are not...

2). I never said I thought you needed 1000 HP to be fast but merely pointed out that many of the NHRA licensed "big dogs" do. I said 500 HP or mid 10's is what I personally consider fast.
3). Dreaming doesn't make a car fast. Time, money and dedication does. 380 rwhp and an 11 something slip is definately quick especially compared to all the 13-16 second cars running on TNT night. It's just not that fast IMO when you see so many drag only cars and bikes running 8.s, 9's and 10's.

The internet is full of fast cars because alot of the people on these kind of sites are looking for bigger power. Go in the drag racing section and you'll find alot of the sub 11 second cars in the sigs. But since people here are from all over the country (and even the world) thier may only be a few of us at any one given track. Add to that track all the kids in stock or near stock cars getting all hyped about a mid 14 second slip and it makes sense why only a few are fast. But hey, at least thier having fun and it's a safe place to do it. But you'll also notice that inbetween the slow TNT kids you have drag cars and bikes running single digits. And occasionally a few TNT people running 10's or low 11's.

I guess my sad *** 400hp daily driver and myself will go hide under a rock somewhere
Re: Another LT1 vs. LS1 story
I kinda laugh when I hear people spouting off rwhp #s as they can so easily be manipulated. Don't get me wrong, the dyno is a great tuning tool, but the numbers generated are just that, numbers...I made 362, 381, 400 rwhp SAE corrected on different dynojets and made 385 on a Mustang. The dyno is for tuning, the track is for testing and is the final judge.
The Mustang dyno 1/4 mile blast was very interesting, however...With the EWP and shorties we went 11.23 at 116 on the dyno...Switched to Kooks stepped LTs and it went 10.98 at 118, but rwhp #s did not change. The 60's were identical 1.35s (gotta love dyno traction.) So we shaved a little over .2 off the 1/4 mile and picked up 2 mph (the dyno historically reads 2 mph slower than reality) but the dyno rwhp/rwtq didn't show it...mmmmm...
I have beaten supposed 450-460 rwhp cars with dyno sheets, etc...Out mph'd and better ETs. Dyno numbers on their face don't impress me, but good track times do. So you and your 400hp DD can come out from your rock now

But on the street ET means nothing and those traps/dyno numbers play a much bigger factor. I know I can't get a 1.7 60' on the street
Re: Another LT1 vs. LS1 story
What I was saying was that I've out mph'd the same people who have claimed higher numbers, too...I picked up 30 rwhp just by changing the "weight" of the rollers on a Mustang dyno with a simple key stroke. Did I really make 30 rwhp? No. It happens probably more than most realize. If you have a dyno operator you can trust and you ask important questions which you already know the answers to before you ask them, then you are in good shape...
I am well aware that ET is a function of traction, but there's no way I should've out mph'd anyone making 40-50 rwhp more than me...
