Another BS story
Re: Another BS story
Your car has tons of mods.A civic will have maybe a 75 shot max.So it runs what 17s stock and 16.0 on spray? Unless he has a big freakin turbo the race is already one.On spray you have more power than a viper. You will completely destroy this his car...on spray or off.
I raced two imports this summer at local track.First to come up side and was not in my 99 but in my slower 96 z28 vert. For mods at the time I had induction,tb bypass,1le elbow, hpp tuning out,3.42 gears instead of stock 2.73 and magnaflow, maf translator. That was it.Oh had nittos too.
But didn't even bother heating them up.Guy was beside me and was talking about how fast his civic was..it had turbo and spray. They were talking about how it should run at least 14s..at least these guys were not thinking it would go 10s right off the bat..LOL and they thought I was a six I think for some reason, mabye cause its purple and the black z28 emblems become near invisible on a dark purple car and being a vert..the magnaflow isn't that loud at idle but it dont' sound like no six..
They also hadn't seen my previous run against buddies 99 trans am.
So we line up.I didn't bother heatin the nittos that run, they were brand new and didn't feel like it.Anyway off we went and I ran a 14.3 at 96mph with a 2.18 60ft.Our track is at 1900 feet and the vert weighed 3800 pounds raceweight.
I just ran thru the quarter and no blue turbo civic was to be seen.I thought it should be a close race.I have the time slip somewhere and he ran a 16.5 yes no misprint at 85mph with a 2.8 60ft or something. My guess is he blew the tires off so bad and then he had to back off the gas or something or he just gave up or something was seriously screwed in his car.Tuning whatever.
I beat him by like 22 carlengths and that is huge on the track. My wife was laughing big time in the stands.I bought the z for her.
Now next time around in the staging lanes that same blue civic came up beside me..they weren't laughing at the purple z any more like the 1st time I was beside them and pretty sure they knew it was no six now!!
Anyway next race was a red civic. It had no turbo or nitrous I would presume and it ran a slightly better 60ft and 17 seconds forget the mph but it was pathetic.I think only a couple of new ford focuses were slower that day.
But I also saw a neon srt 4 choke all day and a wrx do equally bad.
So whats the deal..well front wheel drive cars are really easy to blow the tires off on especially with spray and turbos. They have teeny tiny tires.
They do ok on drag tires of course as does every car.My nittos helped me crush these little imports but even without them I can run a 2.3 on street tires at our unprepped track and still would have crushed them.
I have upped my vert mods this year but won't be able to use my new wet kit at the track without a rollbar.I also did more mods like a 2800 stall and
1.6 rockers,305 cam, underdrive balancer and may get some headers this year.
But like someone said there are fast as heck little civics out there, one guy in our town has an engine swapped one with spray not sure about turbos and its pretty darn quick.Gave a buddies near stock c5 a good run ,forget who won.But 10 second civics are super super rare.
I have a 92 talon awd.Talons can crush most cars off the line with like 1.6 60fts on street tires. But it takes a lot of money to get one in the 10s.Huge turbo, maybe spray, lots of fairly expensive supporting mods like giant intercooler, big injectors, etc etc.I am hoping to hit 10s this year but it wasn't that cheap to do it.
Bet him 500 bucks.this is free money and spray him anyway.Run what your brung.!!
Happy civic smoking!!!

Re: Another BS story
I also forgot to mention that a group in our engineering department spent the entire year developing a lighweight drag racing suspension for a Turbo Civic they were going to run at the track in the spring. Our University rented out the track for a day last spring. I didnt get to go but my buddy who had a S/C Trans Am at the time did. He said everyone of the kids on the civic team road in on riced out cars and brought the civic in on a trailer. It was supposed to run 11's regularly and 10's with the new suspension. It ran 14 second quarter miles one on top of another. The suspension upgrade cost was outrageous and needless to say the domestic crowd boo'ed them off the track. According to my friend they were the running joke for the day since the annoucer said how they expected 10's with it everytime they ran and until they ran everyone of the kids were talking **** to the F-body guys. I think he even mentioned about them having 10 second club T-shirts or something. Again roast him and take his money, but make sure it isnt his daddy's heavly modded 9 second freak car or something.

I used to love the High School Car beef. I just graduated last year and got my car a week before I got my liscence. Funny part was, nobody in the surrounding school district had a car faster than it.
So I was a monopoly.

Re: Another BS story
I was just wondering, hows it possible to get a civic in the 10s? What is needed? I drove one a while back that was stock and it had zero torque and zero hp. It felt like i needed to floor it to get anything over 25 and it was brand new.
I don't know if they have the same parts or not for imports but i would imagine youd definentally need a different engine, boost, nos, boltons, etc.
When i drove it i was so confused because so many people have civics and they think they are fast but when driving it, i could clearly tell it just wasn't the case, i was very disappointed with the pickup.
They are good economy cars but nothing else. You will definentally win.
Ricers are known to exaggerate.

F=m*a
Those little ****boxes are light. And when gutted, they'll weight next to nothing (i've heard a civic can be cut down to 23-2400lbs WITH the engine). Some are fast though, a friend of mine has a 99 or 00 civic, manual trans, and very little weight reduction (this guy is cool, NOT a ricer) and he blew the stock engine up with nitrous. He had the bottom end built back to stock specs with forged pistons (whole engine cost him about 1200 to build
), ported the head himself, bigger cam(s), header, etc.... he runs 13.7s all night long all motor at darlington on good tires. The car was done right... no stickers, wings, bodykits, or damn stupid looking wheels. It looks like a stock lowered civic. THAT'S racing. What suprises me is that he'll beat me off the line even when i get traction and it takes me till about 70mph to catch him. And then i have about a carlength or two on him at about the 1/4 and i walk off after that. But know that this guy KNOWS what he's doing. Most don't have a clue. He has a turbo on the way and there's no doubt in my mind he'll have it running 11s by next fall if his driveline hold up.
They take a lot more work, but can be made into an 11sec car with the right setup. From there you're talking BIG $$$. MUCH easier to start with a V8 though.

Re: Another BS story
When I was stock, I ran a turbo/nitrous Acura integra. He had HUGE slicks on the front of this thing and had about ten kids following him all around everywhere. Also had it trailored in. I think I cut a 2.07 60" to his 2.2"...Had him halfway down the track (1/8) and there he went....SCREAMING!!! i RAN A 8.9 @ 81, I think and he ran a 8.2 @ like 95 mph!!! This thing didnt have a good et for his trap speed but he was putting people down all night. Cool dude, but had a cocky following!!
Re: Another BS story
The last ricer I knew that said his car would run a 10 took it to the track..Not knowing anything about cars , ran a 16. Im not joking either.
Then again I dont know the guy your dealing with.
