Thumbs up Almighty LS1????????

A guy I work with went and bought a 96 Z28 A4, with 142,000 and it looked like hell... mismatched paint bondo, etc. He was talking crap about my car and I told him to bring the heap of shat to work and I would put him in his place. All the guys at work said not to race him because thay have rode in his car and it was fast as hell and his car would smoke me. So I'm like yea, yea whatever, it's an LT1 piece of shat. So he brings it to work and we line up that night. I put it in OD and launch, I spin tire through first and into second, were side by side. He gets a half car on me and maintained it through the quarter, I COULD NOT PASS HIM!!! So the first race he beat me by a half car and is talking plenty of shat! We line up again and this time I like what the f**k, I drop in in 1st gear and launch. I went side ways and constantly spinning in 1st, shift to second and hook, we are side by side again, shift into third and slowly start pulling on him and beat him by 2 cars. He didn't want a 3rd run!!! I talked to him the next day and he shows me what he's got under the hood, on the TB there was a plate with some racing shops name on it. Come to find out, he had head work, TB port, and mild cam and LT's w/crapmaster muffler. Let's just say, I have a ton of respect for LT1's now!

Re: Almighty LS1????????

Re: Almighty LS1????????

I won't lie, that was the second race I've had in that car since I bought brand new. I baby it and just hit the 40K mark, so it's safe to say I haven't had much racing experience. I put it 4th and figured I would let the car do all the guess work. Guess I was wrong because it definetly was quicker when I manually shifted it. I think I need some different tires though, I spin so much off the line it's insane!

Launching the car in OD, D or 1, it's all the same. When I was on drag radials I used to pull up to the line at the dragstrip, leave it in D and go. That's what an automatic is for, it does all the work for you.

Exactly.

If you want to look like you're driving a stick, either buy one or move your right hand so it looks like you're driving one, but please just let the auto. trans. do the work for you.

Piece of shat LT1 ? Not a nice comment. You need to learn that there are alot of LT1's and old school out there who make plenty of power and will have you looking at there tail lights. Its very depressing sometimes.Been there and done that many times.

okay, before a war starts and some of you "sensitive" lt1 guys get all butt-hurt and weepy...

he did say that the car was pretty rough in appearance. if i saw something like that in person, i'd prolly call it a "piece of shat" too, no matter what was under the hood. it just turns out that this particular piece of shat was particularly quick. however, if he was just saying that it was a piece just because it was an lt1, which i doubt, then he was being a legitimate d1ck.

Re: Almighty LS1????????

Hopefully thats why he said LT1 POS! Because it looked horrible because theres plenty of LT1's that would show you a bad just as ANTZ said! Good run nontheless. I hate when people run their mouths and talk crap for no reason. Theres plenty of cocky people around here like that as well. Had some clown in a lx stang with a gt40 crate motor accuse me of spraying him because I pulled 2.5 cars on him. All I could do was laugh and show him I didnt have nitrous AT THE TIME!

Re: Almighty LS1????????

I would run you in my LT1 piece of shat if you were near by. But I am very surprised that he got the half car on you the first time. If you are basically stock, he would have pulled alot harder if it really was a heads and cam car.

Re: Almighty LS1????????

Before you LT1 guys get all fired up....I have owned a 96 Z , it was definetly not a POS! This dudes car by looking at it, you would wonder if it even ran with the dings, bondo, cracked plastic rear valence! I will say this though, my 96 Z could not have beat my 99 SS, and I did have some minor mods on the LT1, bought it that way from a friend of mine. What I meant to say in my original post was I didn't realize with some mods how quick the LT1's are!

Re: Almighty LS1????????

might have been a total loss, or just a wrecked car, can pick one up for about $750 with LT-1 engine and put it back together for $5-7k, doesn't necessarily mean they're slow. Got a wrecked zr-1 in my garage right now with 174 miles on the clock for $14.5, really wasn't even in that bad of shape. Gonna call IT a piece of shat lt-5? She's all primered up and almost ready for paint and a little detail work. Admiral blue=
