The Almighty '03 Cobra

I decided to go out cruising tonite and I am happy I chose to do so. Im driving down 37 and find my first race. S2000, supercharged, I am a little nervous considering the forced induction but it turns out it wasn't enough. We raced from a first gear roll and took it up to the top of third with a solid three car lead. Later, I drove by the wawa and noticed a beautiful 03 Cobra. I pull a quick U-Turn and stop by. Turns out he is a nice guy and agrees to run me. All he had was a set of radials and a shifter. I figured what the hell I will see what all this talk is about. I am not expecting to win, but what the hell. After crusing for a LONG TIME, the people infront were a$$es and would not budge, we went around them and went from a roll.

We went a total of five times, three from a roll, two a stop. Both times from the stop he pulled an immediate two car lead and kept it. The roll was alot more interesting, two times he missed a shift ( the driving was questionable ) but when we finally got a clean run it was dead even. The run was from 2nd to 4th. I was very impressed with my car and I cannot wait for my headers.

Was he impressed with your car, too?

I had a similar experience in my M6 LS1: 1st gear through 4th gear, rolling start, even all the way. He has a stock '03 Cobra and I have an LS1 with an FIPK and an SLP 2-otl exhaust.

It was funny for me, too, because I came across an '01 Cobra a few minutes later and completely put the smack down. It was really ugly in 3rd gear. BIG difference!

Those supercharged Cobras are pretty damn fast, but it's nice to know that $600 can get you in the game with an LS1. I wonder what '03 Cobra drivers think about when racing LS1s.

Wow...I'm more impressed with the s2000 kill! You gotta think if it was done right that he was making around 350 hp (that's what the sc'd 2000 Car and Driver tested made). That's gotta be fast with such a light car.

All I know about the s2000 was that it was a comptech supercharger. I asked and the guy didn't dyno or run it yet.

My buddy beats 03 Cobras at the track all the time in his basically stock 02 Z28. His mods are 3.5'' catback, lid, and Nitto drag radials and he ran a best of 7.9@87mph on motor in the 1/8. I think the tempature had something to do with that run but even before it started getting colder here he was running 8.1's 8.2's consistently.

This has been flamed/debated too many times but, $600 in the Cobra=LS1 OWNED........your comparing a Stock Cobra to your modded LS1.......give it a rest.........
I know........IF the 03Z28 would have come out i wouldn't have a crapstang, id have a Z, but, well................yea
I know this isnt helping but anywho $600 Z28 LS1 vs $600 03Cobra........id be a rich man bettin on this site......

Let's see if you can comprehend this:

$600 will make an M6 LS1 as fast as an '03 Cobra. Yes, I'm comparing my modified LS1 to a stock Cobra. Is there something illegal about that? There are stock Cobras out there, right? Then I think we're allowed to talk about this.

You're the one doing the IFs...if the Cobra had $600 in mods...well it didn't. In case you haven't noticed, cars frequently do not have the same level of modifications.

I'm not debating anything. I know what can be done to '03 Cobras, and I'm more interested in what can be done to my car.

That's not what I was implying. You're not an idiot if you purchase an '03 ('04?) Cobra...but maybe you think to yourself, every once in a while, "Those damn pesky LS1s."

I can still put up a good fight in mine. And I'm about to do heads/cam.

I'm looking forward to my 1st race with an 03 Cobra. I'm on par w/ Cammed LS1s, and I'm an LT1, so I know that Cobra owner will be doubting me and my car....maybe he'll be surprised, we'll see if I can ever get one of those cocky guys to even look over.

And to you Stang owners, what is it about the '03 Cobra that makes them think they "own the world" and won't even give F-bodies a look...now this is in my Cammed LT1 w/ LTs AND my roommates Cammed LS1. They just sit at the stop light, won't even look over. WTF is up with that? I'm not a Stang fan, but I agree the 03 Cobras are very nice, and very fast.

My buddy has an 01 SS with a lid, dynomouth exhaust, free ram air mod and a shifter. We raced a bone stock 03 Cobra one night. It was even , then when we hit fourth the Cobra walked pretty steadily. The SS was strong compared to other SS's, and the Cobra was weak compared to other Cobras(before mods ) Go figure.
